D'Avanzo Guitars...

XSSIVE

OCDologist
I just realized I never made a "formal" post introducing my new D'Avanzo guitars. After a few years of building my Clone brand guitars which some of you may remember (and some of you own, thanks!) then a few years working for Mirabella guitars followed by a few years off from guitars due to family health issues (more on that later) it was time to really have full control over everything and build the exact guitars I wanted with no compromises. Chris (Ayrton) posted up his DA.004 that I built for him but I figured since everyone loves pics I'd post the others that have come to life so far....more in the works and ready to take on new orders at any time (email or PM me for info).

The body shape that looks like a Tele mated with a Jazzmaster a Strat and an EVH is my JD body shape that's been rattling around in my head for years and finally came to life back in 2011 or '12 when I was doing the prototyping for the new guitars. The name JD comes from my father's initials (Josh D'Avanzo) who I lost just about two years ago to bladder cancer, hence my time off from working on guitars. It's thanks to his teaching of how to use tools in general (and by using a bunch of his tools left to me) that I even know how to work with my hands and can build and work on guitars, so I at least owed him a thanks in the form of naming it after him.

More pics from different angles on my site and more to come as future guitars progress. www.DAvanzoGuitars.com

Oh and of course I can build stuff without Floyds haha (and in any typical body shape). It just turns out all the early builds were specced with with Floyds. DA.005, DA.006 and DA.007 will be Floydless.

That offset tele shape is sweet. Great looking guitars all around.

Those are GORGEOUS!! I really love the figured top ones.. Those really make my tootsies roll. But I love the other shape too! just enough Non tele to where it doesnt look like it should have the tele configurartion. The way the top "horn" area extends and the arm bevel set it apart.

Sorry to hear about your dad.. I lost mine to Leukemia and still miss him terribly.. Glad you can kinda pass down a legacy for him

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

I really like the JD design. Very cool looking.

Thanks!

:bigok:

Love this color, almost a metallic sour apple. Would love to see a single humbucker, single volume control, Strat shaped body with a stringthrough tune-o-matic bridge.

That one is my personal guitar and what became my favorite color. It's a sort of candy light metallic granny smith apple green. Looks real cool in person. As for a strat body, 1 hum, T-O-M in that color...no problem.

Really like your workshop!

Thanks. I finally got the main bench set up the way I want it and decided it would be cool as the background for all the pics from here on out instead of a boring white background or whatever.

Thanks. I'm itching to do one of my JD bodies with a tele configuration actually. Hoping someone orders one at some point. I also need to finalize a pickguard design for it too. That shape is set up so it can be done with pretty much any bridge, pickup and control layouts, even LP style with 4 knobs and an upper horn toggle. I wanted it to be versatile. Sorry about your dad too, things still aren't quite normal (whatever that is lol) for me without him since I was real close to him.

I'll really have to think about that. I've got plenty of necks here, but since I'm renting, painting is something I just can't do right now, which is why I've been stripping and staining/tru-oiling by hand. No overspray. :D

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

Beautifully different and unique! Sorry for your loss Mike and I'm sure he'll be looking down, smiling and beaming with pride... awesome stuff. I wish you well in this new venture... I'm sure it's going to go well.

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

Sorry for your loss Bro :(

As always, killer axes Mike. You are the only dood here who can give me GAS for superstrats, time and time again with your creations. I am digging the sour apple/booger green one too ;)

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

So much for swearing off superstrats... As usual, impeccable axes, photography, and workbench.

Suhr, eat your heart out.

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

Great work Mike, they are all beautiful

Sorry to hear about your Dad, he would be very proud I am sure.

Whoops, sorry for the confusion I should have clarified what I meant...I meant a full build of a guitar with those specs would be no problem. I'm not doing parts only sales, just complete builds. Sorry for the confusing way I worded that.

Thanks! Pretty sure my dad would have loved them and would have been happy to finally see our name on a headstock. I know he would have especially loved Ayrton's guitar since he was a big fan of black/chrome and nice figured woods since he was a hobbyist woodworker and a car guy. I have a killer slab of pitch black ebony from his wood stash (among a whole lot of other stuff) I'm saving for a special future build.

I think I said it in Ayton's post, but those are amazing. The JD shape is brilliant too.

Thanks. Glad to hear people like the JD. It's crazy how many steps it takes to get to that from a starting point of a tele. At first glance it seems like a simple skew of a tele but that ends up vastly different and bloated looking lol. I spent ages tweaking the lines of it all the way down to the perfect location and angle for the forearm cut so your arm lands dead center of it when it's played standing up on a strap.

Thanks very much.

I'm loving the shapes, the colors, the style going on.

Thank you.

Those are absolutely beautiful, Mike.

PM'd.

PM'd you back.

Thanks. Everyone needs a super strat! When my godfather saw the green one he turned it upside down (body facing up) and said..."Look, it's Gumby". So now it's been nicknamed Gumby since it sort of looks like his head when held body up lol.

Swear off superstats? That's like swearing off playing the A string, just madness hahaha.

Thanks Scott!

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

Good to have you back! Sorry to hear about your dad, I lost mine in October 2012 too

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

Those look amazing! Sorry to about your Dad. I lost mine suddenly a little over 2 years ago and still have a hard time with it at times. I am also using some his tools to build my guitars, and owe him a lot for his knowledge and skill and what I learned from him. What finish are you using?

Re: D'Avanzo Guitars...

As usual.....so friggin' cool!!!!
And can relate with you about parents, the last 3 years have been....well kinda empty in many ways, just got back to do more of the things my father used to have in common....
I still grab myself in picking up the phone....well that line is just not long enough I guess!
Sorry for your loss....

And those guitars are great, really dig the details and thoughts behind them:)
