Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Hi there,
I bought myself an american standard Strat and now I want to have the same Pick Ups like Dave Murray. But not like his Signature or his HotRail guitar.
Does someone know wich Pick Up he used on the A Real Live One / Raising Hell Tour.
You can see it in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhqMb6Z9ju4&playnext=1&list=PLC5D9C917CB5029CC

I already know that he's got a DiMarzio Super Distortion on the bridge position.
But I couldd'nt find out which Pick Up's he's used in the middle and neck position.

Thanks for Help =)

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Typically he used Dimarzio PAF's in the neck.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Not the PAF Pro. He used the old design DP103 in the neck, pre 36th Anniversary DP103.

FWIW, by the time a Real Live One was recorded, he was already using Hot Rails AFAIK. That was done in the 1990's which is when he switched.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

The neck was the DP-103 and I think the middle single coil might have been a Dimarzio FS-2?

Best advice....

Do your own thing, make your own sound. Even if you get the exact same pups, you're not going to sound like him anyway.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

But his guitar is a HSS and the single coils on his A Real Live One Guitar don't look like Hot Rails.

In this pic you can see it clearly

It seems to be a very unpopular guitar =)

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Years ago when the Real Live One and Real Dead One were released as different albums (before the enhanced colletion) I remember reading the original booklet included in the casset (yea, I had no CD player back then) and I remember reading Dave was using Seymour Duncan back then (as well as Cry Baby Wha and other brands). Unfortunately I don't have it with me rigth now and all my cassets where copies from a friend CDs, jaja.

I suggest you to grab a booklet from the original 90's released albums and check the Dave related notes. Maybe the answer could be found there. Chances are he migh have used SD Humbuckers before switching to Rails.

And about that video, wasn't it a HSH with Zebra pickups rather than a HSS?

I have that on vinyl & just checked, the sleeve note says all guitars fitted with either Seymour Duncan JB or Dimarzio Super Distortion.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

You can see in that video that its HSH in that guitar, but they are zebras so they look more traditional from a distance. What they are I don't know, but they are HSH for sure.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

If you want all singles. Go with the Everything Axe Set. The bridge is a mini JB, so it has enough beef for metal.
