Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Anything is possible. But I think its going to be hard to find a definitive source. All answers are going to include some amount of conjecture. Your probably better off just figuring out what pickups he used around that time frame (which seems to have already been covered in this thread) and just go from there. I doubt you will find a source that says 100% for sure.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Thanks to everbody but I still don't know which single coils he used in this guitar

@TattoedCarrot: I think it's definitely a HSS and I know that's he's got a SD or a PAF in the bridge.

And I couldn't find the solution in the CD booklet.

it is a LONE STAR strat with a PG+ in the bridge and texas special singles

no real mystery here

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

He has used a number of different pickups over the years.

They include:

  • Dimarzio Super Distortion
  • Dimarzio PAF
  • JB
  • HS-2
  • JB Jr
  • Classic rails
  • Hot rails
If I was to build a S/S/S with Iron Maiden in mind I would choose a Fastrack II bridge, cool rails middle and JB Jr neck. If it was H/S/H I would go with Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge, cool rails middle and Super II or Dimarzio PAF neck.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Thanks idsnowdog that was helping =)
Yes I know that it is a Lone Star but with other Pick Ups.

So if it was build a S/S/S I thinke it could be: Fastrack 2( bridge), vintage Style or HS-2 (middle) and a HS-2 (neck). but I don't think it is a S/S/S

In this pic its for sure a H/S/S: http://www.google.ch/imgres?imgurl=...t:429,r:29,s:166&tx=46&ty=66&biw=1393&bih=751

And the singles don't look like Rails or a JB so maybe: DiMarzio Super Distortion DP-100 (bridge), HS-2 or Vintage Style (middle) and a HS-2 (neck)?

For a H/S/H it could be that he used that same pick-up which he has on his Signature. But I think the Humbucker are in a Zebra-Colour.

That could be a solution =)

You can see the black bobbin on the neck pickup in the solo part.
That's not even the same guitar that you referred to in the first video in the original post. That one has a standard strat trem, the strat in the first video has a Floyd. He's used a lot of different variations so I think you have to nail down which one you're looking for.

Here's a screen shot of the one you first asked about in the original post. During the solo, the light reflects off both bobbins, so there's no doubt that one is an HSH with a Floyd. But the zebra colors make it look more like a traditional strat with three singles.

The Carrot is correct. Out of pure weird coincidence I happened to get the Raising Hell DVD in the mail tonight from Netflix. The guitar Dave is playing on Number of the Beast and a bunch of other songs is absolutely HSH with a floyd. I'd venture to say he's got Super D/PAF in there, as a few times the light shines on the guitar the right way and its visible that the pickups are more matte-looking than the shiny pickguard. Suggesting Dimarzio.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

No idea.

Not that the video quality was good enough to tell the difference, but even if its the same guitar, the pickups being different in the pic means it might not sound as you like in the video, unless of course you were just using the video to point out the guitar and not actually chasing that sound.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Yes I can see it too I didn't see at the first time because of the zebra colour. but I the pic I posted it's absolutely H/S/S. You cans see it also in this pic and it seems to be an older one and want to know which single coils he used.

there is absolutely no way to tell exactly what singles are in that guitar without dave himself telling us:14:

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Hmm ok then...
then i'm going to pimp my guitar with two humbuckers and ONE single coil. DiMarzio:Super Distortion, Paf 36th and Visual Vintage but if I'm going to meet him this summer I'm going to torturing till he told me which single coils he used =)

He might not even know.

36th is a great pickup, but don't overlook the Air Classic, which is actually closer to what the old Dimarzio PAF model was that he was known to use. I find the Air Classic to be a little better match in the neck.

Re: Dave Murray/Iron Maiden

Hmm I don't know the Air Classic. I play sometimes with the Signature Model and the PAF is just a ****ing awesome pick up. I've never played with a Air Classic.

The Air Classic is pretty much what the PAF was before they tweaked it and renamed it the 36th. It has slightly less mids than the 36th, so its more articulate in the neck.
