Dave Murray loaded pickguard volume control not working

Hi!

Im new here but not so new to Seymore Duncan pick-ups as i have a few on my guitars.

Today i ran in to a problem as i installed a new Dave Murray loaded pickguard.

As ther is only the two cables to the socket to be installed I thought i couldent go wrong, but to my big surprice the volume
control is not working, it is full throttle but I cant adjust the volume.

Both tone controlls are working fine and everything else as it seems.

I put the cables as in the red square in the attached diagram.

Have I missed something or is my volume control faulty?

Ground not attached on the volume

Is the volume kinda like a tone control?
Then the ground on one leg ot the volume pot
Not connected to output ground

I know you are new

Welcome to the forum

Open the other two threads
On the top left side select delete first post
Which will delete the thread

Thanks

And check the ground

You will need a ground wire to the bridge as well

Thanks for answers and helping out, i had some error messegaes while posting so I guess thats what made a mess.

Regarding the ground to/fromthe bridge is grounded to the outlet at the same point as the ground from the volume control, for all I can se the whitwe cable is in right position and trhe grund is at the back of the volum control and the bridge is grounded to the outlet... Ill take it a part to get som pictures...

Since this is all loaded and prepared from Seymour Duncan all that suppose to be needed is to solder the ground and the white cable from the outlet as shown in picture here, and then the bridge to the outlet, same point as ground cable from the volume, or am I totaly lost

Do you have a multi meter that will let you test continuity from the back of the volume pot to the output jack?

They look to be soldered to the back of the pot

But look closely at the terminal closest to the lowest arrow

It's hard to see from here, but there should be a a connection from the terminal to the back of the pot

If it has sound but it doesn't control the volume
Then it's not the wiring. You are getting signal
But the connection between the terminal and ground is faulty

Sometimes I have seen the solder joint broken at the pot. Just not stuck to the back of the pot.

Could be as simple as touch the joint with a hot soldering iron. And re flow it.

Sorry about the error messages when posting. This is a 'feature' of the forum we have been trying to get corrected for awhile. When editing a post, you sometimes get 403 error messages. It seems to happen to some more than others.

Yes, you took me to the right spot:burnout:

I messured with the multimeter and grounding was ok between all the pots, bridge and output jack.

BUT, were the gruond runs throught the terminal connection(not sure of the word her) there were no connection, and that should be almost impossible as the cable runs throught ther hole, but in some way it m aneged to go throught without having contact, as Im not native in english i put a picture with new arrow to show.

Haha, yeah, that's what I mean. Happy the information got through, and it is all working now. How does it sound?

Fantastic, this is just what I was looking for, I bought this American Ultra Stratocaster new 3-4 yeas ago, never liked the sound from the original pick-ups, so I keept using my Gibsons and this one just stod there.

But now its a differnt beast, and as I said, this was exactly what was needed and she sound awsome!!!

sounds like everything worked out well! ive used the prewired pickguards before, and it does usually make it easy to do a full swap

I always attach a snap on connector for the output jack and ground. Then I can swap out pickguards easily.
