Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

This is from December 6th, on Megadeth.com:

"After two successful years, I have decided to leave ESP guitars. This was a business decision and had nothing to do with the guitars or the manufacturing of the guitars, and I wish the staff of ESP, both in the USA and in Japan and Korea the very best of health and prosperity.

Meanwhile, I am taking my Classic Metal V known formerly as a Jackson King V1 or an ESP DV8, and my new guitar design presently known as an Axxion, which was the recipient of the Gold Award from Guitar World Magazine for 2005 for new guitar designs with me.

I will also be re-introducing through my new endorsement many special models, including re-issues of my old models from over the span of my career, as well as some retro V shapes, similar to the formerly known Jackson Y2KV or a Gibson Flying V.

I will make my announcement and be attending the 2007 NAMM show to meet Megadeth fans and all metal fans, musicians of all styles-especially guitarists".

Who could be the new endorser? Jackson again? BC Rich? (touches wood) Dean?

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

HE designed the King V...? Somehow this seems weird...

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

I heard about this last night too on blabbermouth. I'm wondering if it didn't have something to do with the new Dave Mustaine actives. Maybe ESP didn't give Seymour Duncan a good deal or something? I would think Mustaine would leave for that; he's kinda known for having his own particular notions of loyalty.

Yeah, no kidding. That V was done for Robbin Crosby originally. That's how it got its name.

Any bets on who is new endorsement is with? I'm going to say Dean.

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

IIRC, the King V from Jackson was designed for Robin Crosby, but Dave kind of adopted it and had a signature model using the King V shape.

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

I saw a live video of Megadeth the other night on Headbanger's Ball. The guitar he was playing looked like the ESP one, even looked as though it had the same headstock, but it didn't say ESP on the headstock. The words on it were small and in some kind of cursive writing so I couldn't read it. Maybe this is the new endorsement? :eek13:

EDIT: It wasn't LIVE at that particular moment, but the video was shot live on stage. It wasn't a typical music video.

...guess I was a little slow on clicking the post button......

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

Ill bet he goes to Silvertone like Paul Stanley.:laugh2:

Honestly, Im guessing Washburn. Dean is rolling with big endorsees right now. Washburn hasnt had a big metal endorsement since Dime left.

They have Dan Donegan from Disturbed and Scott Ian.

I guess they're not good enough. :laugh2:

Washburn's logo is handwritten and in cursives, like sufferinthewind that mentioned he saw, ain't it?

You know, that could be.

They stole the Dean ML design. It was the exact same guitar, only it said "Washburn" instead of "Dean." I wouldn't be surprised if they directly ripped off ESP's design AND headstock. :laugh2:

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

Which company would profit the most and would be willing to do all the special editions, etc. he promised? If it's Ibanez I'll laugh.

Ohh, a 3rd generation rip-off then? Starts with Jackson, then ESP (ripped off Jackson) and then Washburn (ripping off ESP). Sounds like a clone of a clone of a clone to me. :laugh2: :laugh2:

Hey, Marty's new signiture guitar is made by Ibanez. Maybe Dave followed him there. :laugh2:

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

I hope he goes back to Jackson. I think Dave just added 3 frets to the V Crosby used, and claimed it his own:laugh2: .

Please, NO!

I love my Ibanezes, but please keep those models USA made!

I seriously hope Dean got the deal. Or Jackson!

Re: Dave Mustaine dropped the ESP endorsement!

The DV8 actually has the cursive-looking ESP headstock logo.

As to "his" V design, I think Dave is talking about his Y2KV design which is his...

Would you be surprised?

It's not like the ML is really all that original, anyway. It's a V and an Explorer in the same guitar. Technically, the ML was made by Gibson. Dean just took the two designs and made 1 guitar out of it. It's a clone of a clone of a clone of a clone, then. :laugh2:

It didn't say ESP. I'm certain of it. Whatever was on the headstock was way too small to read from a distance, and it had way more than 3 letters on it. Maybe I can find the video on youtube.
