I want to set up my guitar pickups so I can solo like Slash and Rhythm like Mustaine.
Any suggestions for Neck and Bridge pickups would be greatly appreciated.

Slash A2P neck, JB bridge.

Re: Dave Mustaine / Slash Pickup setup

Get a triple neck guitar like Rick" Nielsen of Cheap Trick and load it up with Slash and Mustaine sets.

Re: Dave Mustaine / Slash Pickup setup

That's not helpful when I dont know what sets they use and my guitar only takes 2 humbuckers.

Re: Dave Mustaine / Slash Pickup setup

Slash uses, naturally, the Seymour Duncan Slash signature set (APH-2) in his Les Pauls. The pickups are meant to make run-of-the-mill Les Pauls sound like his legendary Derrig copy loaded with the Alnico II Pro (APH-1) set.

Mustaine uses, naturally, the Seymour Duncan Mustaine Livewire signature set. They are active, but are voiced based on the JB/Jazz set that he used previously.

So Demanic's suggestion of Slash A2P neck and JB bridge is as helpful as it gets, because those are the actual pickups the artists have used.

Sorry, I should have quoted the post above my last.
I dont use forums often.
I was referring only to the triple neck suggestion by backporchpicker, although it was funny :-)

Demanic's comment (and yours) is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Re: Dave Mustaine / Slash Pickup setup

The Slash model is a passive pickup, whereas the Mustaine is active. Putting them in the same guitar can apprently be done, but it's a hassle

But since both guitarists most likely primarily deped on their bridge pickup for both soloing and rhythm playing, the best thing you can do is decide on which one you like more and buy the bridge version of that.

chill out, wild man. not throwing you under the bus. my first thought was the same reply that you gave.

it's common for a lot of people to ask questions without providing enough info. such as:

which solo? which rhythm? maybe the OP needs a Jazz neck and an A2P bridge? how can we tell?

taking it further:

what guitar do you have? describe your rig. one guy plays Lesters, the other is more known for Vs.

Lol. Very chill my good Sir. Beta blockers do a fantastic job of keeping me so 😉

meanwhile I consume enough Red Bull and coffee to make most people drive into the front of a Luby's... and I'm ready for a nap.

Remember the scene from "Silence of the Lambs" when someone was talking about Lecter assaulting someone while on a heart monitor and his heart rate never rose above 70? I now share that trait.

Ok,
More info.
I have a LesPaul semi Hollow body
Body: Basswood/Quilted Maple
Set neck
Control: 2V, 2T, 3-Way Toggle
Bigsby B5 Korean knock off
Scale Length: 628mm/24.75″

Favorite Megadeth album is Rust in Pieces
Slash everything, Probably G'N'R - Apetite for Destruction
Even a bit of Mick Mars - Motley Crue
No particular songs, I just love the sound.

I'm no expert, just an entry level player.
and I realise there are alot of variables, but something that will get me closer to those sounds

Hear me out... but the Perpetual Burn...

I had mine loaded in for a while. I only took it out to try others, but it's definitely on my list of pickups to reinstall into another guitar, preferably something with an alder body and maple neck. I used mine with the Marshall TSL100 using a Maxon OD808 as a booster permanently and for rhythms an MXR 10 band to drop the highs and mids a bit. I still use that set up for the Marshall but the Perp did a great job in that set up.
