Any one have these? I just got a set in a Hamer that I use to gig with. Any issues? I have to go back to the shop tomorrow, the tech made a mistake and both pup's are always on:argh:

Re: Dave Mustaine ?

Anybody can make a mistake. I do it all the time. But it never ceases to amaze me, techs who send their work out untested. How hard would it have been to plug the guitar in and make sure all the controls work?

Beautiful axe, btw. Hope your tech gets the "bug" worked out.

Re: Dave Mustaine ?

I have them, I have not had any issues. Great pups! I am sure it won't take the tech long to square that away.

Re: Dave Mustaine ?

That guitar looks great. And yes I owned a set and loved 'em. No issues here, I'm not a big fan of actives though, so I'm sticking with passives.

Re: Dave Mustaine ?

Got it fixed today, and it's hot as hell. Maybe too hot. I cant seem to get the low E and A strings to stop sounding muddy when doing a palm mute with moderate distortion. I can turn the bass down to 3 and the mid to 4 with treble around 7, but have to crank the presence. I dont like my sound to be all highs, and like a good deal of bass and mids. Ive tried lowering the pup height, but it doesnt seem to help much. I play mostly classic/hard rock, and am a bit disapointed. Maybe I'm trying to get my Fender HR DeVille to sound like a Marshall? I havent tried the guitar w/ a Marshall yet.

Who knows?

Re: Dave Mustaine ?

I think these things have a plenty of bass and highs. I have ABSOLUTELY no problem what so ever getting plenty of highs or bass or both out of my Mustaine's. Then again I haven't had ANY problem with flubbiness or mud on the low E and A string. I have a Marshall Vintage Modern that I'm playing through two different cabinets depending on where I am. I'm waiting for a new one from ear candy.

I would ask what type of amp and speakers you're using? Any flubbiness or lack of bass could be due to your rig. Many different links in the tone chain so to speak.

Well...I'm using an Engl Screamer and a VHT FB cab...and both are pretty **** tight. I've never heard anyone describe a VHT cab as anything other than uber-tight. I have changed pre-amp tubes since I had the Mustaines...and my tone is def dryer now...that might have helped some with the flub. But compared to the Black Outs and other SD PuPs I've used...there are much better PuPs for palm muting chug and low E definition.
