David Bray mods and amps: thoughts and experiences? found a local modded amp!

Anyone played any David Bray modded amps or builds? Thoughts? Plenty of videos and clips online, they sound great. Found a 1987x with the Mod 1 done to it and it has an FX loop as well. Asking for $1,200 for it and I am pretty interested. I am really looking for a combo, but this is something one should not perhaps pass up. Thoughts?

The Bray mods are cool mods.

The PCB reissue Plexi amps are, IMO marginal in terms of build quality but that doesn't stop a lot of guys form using them.

A Bray modded 50 watt Plexi is a loud amp and even though it has a master volume it'll sound better if you can really get it cooking which is hard for most guys. That amp needs to be played loud and if you are a living room guitar player there is a good chance you will in the long run be unhappy with it.

He posts here occasionally.

They do sound nice; what you'd expect a good Plexi to sound like. I listened to the clip he recorded with a Strat recently and the clean tone is pretty sweet.

But, TGWIF is correct, you need to play loud to get 'that' tone. Yet, given what a new Marshall of similar sort costs, with this amp you're probably getting more for $$.
