David Grissom Rotary Speaker Effect

Hey guys, anyone know how David Grissom gets his cool rotary speaker effect? Check out this video, specifically at 0:34. I know he used an Arion Stereo Chorus and, from what I could, the dials were set pretty high, which would give him a faster sweep effect. Maybe that's it? Maybe he didn't even use that effect in this video. I don't know. Anyone have an idea?

Whatever it is, it is a cool effect there. It doesn't sound like a chorus, though. It sounds like a Hammond blended in with his guitar sound. Maybe an EH C9 Organ Machine pedal?

Watching this video (and I really want the DGT-15 amp), I bet it's the Arion Stereo Chorus. The whole video is great, but the effect starts at 43:31.

Okay, it's the Arion Stereo Chorus. Check out this video. Again, great video but he talks about and demos the chorus at 14:51. He even says it's kind of like a Leslie but not really a Leslie. Maybe I'll try it on my Ibanez CS-9.

Definitely in series. He doesn't do any effects loops or parallel wiring in the signal chain. You can even hear him say it's his chorus pedal doing the effect.

joe bonamassa uses a way huge chorus for a leslie sound frequently, its not perfect, but it works.

I saw an interview with Joe Bonamassa a few years back and he was using a Korg G4 Rotary Speaker Simulator. I remember him saying he hoped it never died because they didn't make them anymore. That was before Reverb ad such.

They're expensive, but the Neo Vent or Mini Vent pedals do great sounding rotary stuff - way better than trying to fake it with a chorus.

he hasnt used a g4 for a long time, but that was a good sounding unit. the rotosphere is another good sounding leslie unit, also not made anymore. that arion stereo chorus is kinda well known to do good leslie sounds, so i wouldnt be surprised if thats what he is using in the clip. the vent stuff is nice too

nope, i had some arion stuff in the 90s. good sound but the build quality wasnt the best, switches and plastic jacks crapped out. i wasnt as nice to em as i could have been as a teenager

Glad you brought that one up! I played for years with a Key Player who played a MEAN B3. He had a little Kiorg board that he used with a Ventilator II and you would swear it was a Hammond and a Leslie that you were hearing! The way it ramps and slows down is so spot on a real Leslie it's spooky. LOVE those!! Your right they are not cleap but man do the sound good!!

I took my Ibanez CS-9 stereo chorus and turned the speed and depth all the way up. Sounds like a usable "warble/Leslie" effect good enough to pass.

My bass player borrowed my vintage CS9 for the studio. He dropped it and cracked the board. Still waiting for him to replace it.
