I will be using a Custom in the bridge of a Les Paul, and I'm torn between these two pickups. I want that sweet sustain of a Les Paul, but I want pretty high output. Will the DD give me the same sweet Les Paul smoothness, just with more output? And also, is the '59 neck hot enough?

IMO the '59 neck is hot enough.

Yeah, I agree. The '59 has a tremendous punch. A great pup indeed. I tried to install one in the neck of a strat and could not get it to sit low enough to balance out the bridge. It was that hot.

I tell you what, I played a DD neck for the first time last night and I was highly impressed and suprised!!! The 59 is a great pickup also. For me it might be a hard call. I would go for the 59 if I would want cleaner tones and the DD neck if I would want to play more distorted leads with the neck. Though both, will pull off each!!

A normal PAF type pickup in the neck of a LP will have enough output to balance with pretty much anything in the bridge.

I'm partial to the Pearly Gates at the neck of a LP. Listen to ZZ Top's "Cheap Sunglasses" or "Brown Sugar" and you'll know why. ;)
