so thanks for your help in advance

Re: DD question

I'm a proud owner of DD in a guitar with a similar makeup: basswood body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. Steve probably suggest it to you because basswood is a really "dead" and dark sounding wood, and the DD is bright as hell (it's high in the treble and mids), with a nice tight bottom (maore bass than a JB i think) and just oozin' with harmonics. You can shred with it, the tapping comes out nice, and you can make it squeal like a pig with the pinch harmonics. Great pickup. If you play a lot of early metal (for example Randy Rhoads was a DD user, and before Hetfield and Hammett started using EMGs, they were using DDs), then this pickup is for you.

Re: DD question

Thanx jimmy!!!
I cannot say that i shred..i mean i play very fast rythms but really low tuned.(dropped c )i am a really hard pickn guitar player an i still get good rythm tone without a chord.
My style covers stuff like stuck mojo to 89-92 megadeth.fast picking but fat sound.
And oh yeah i like to pinch alot.i like any kind of harmonics.when i get my dd ,i will post some clips..
when i do my solos ,i play long notes with more pick and bending tricks.little like chuck (r.i.p) from death.i like to let the notes sustain.
What do you think?can you take the tone like in "pery mason"?how is your sustain?

Re: DD question

No Prob DB. The sustain is great in my guitar, god knows my guitar needed every bit of help it could get (it's a really cheap Dean Custom with a floyd rose licensed and a freddy krueger graphic on the body which made it cool). As I said it's got some nice screamin' high and if you like pinch harmonics, do a lot of hammer-ons and pull offs, you can achieve those pretty damn easy on the DD.

Since you also mentioned Megadeth, the JB is what Dave Mustaine has been using for a while, and that a pretty versatile pickup also. I have one on my SG and its pretty good for all forms of rock and metal, and bluesy stuff too. Ive heard rumors that MegaDave was using a DiMarzio X2N pickup for the Rust in Peace album (circa 1990), some say it was a JB.

For Dropped Tuning, I hear the Custom is really sweet, especially for fat, chugging riffs. I also hear they are not too great for pinch harmonics, but I'm not sure. I'm trying to figure out what I want in my LTD M-200FM... its got these new EMG-ESPs in it.. although not too bad, I'm more a Duncan guy.

The DD uses the same coils as the JB, but the DD uses a big ceramic mag instead of an A5 (JB). DDs and JBs sound awesome in dark guitars. You will love it.

Re: DD question

cool!!! Thank you BRO!!!
so i ordered one almost 1 week ago.I mean the DD.And i hope i will be as proud as you!!!i hove no problems with sustain ,but it can be a probem with a high dc re pu.so i try to take every bit of information.
My band mate plays wit a jb.and i do not like it.I will give a try.Did you tried screaming demon?

Re: DD question

I used to have a Demon in an alder/maple-necked Strat. It's a good pickup once you change the hex poles to fillister screws. It's kind of a hopped up '59- a PAF sound with lots of mids (after the mod). I can't stand the pickup in it's stock form though. I just can't make it sound good.

Re: DD question

Can't say I've tried the screamin demon, although I'm quite curious about it. I hear it has less output than the JB or DD, I could be wrong though. It looks really cool. what didn't you like about the JB, if you mind me asking?

Re: DD question

The Screamin Demon is a completely different class of pickup from the DD or JB. The SD is lot brighter, more open in the mids, has tighter and cleaner lows than the DD or JB, and is overall less compressed. Harmonics do jump out of the guitar and if your amp has enough gain, it can definately do hard rock and metal.

Re: DD question

would you guys happen to know if the Custom can hit pinch harmonics easily? I haven't tried it yet, but I'd probably consider stickin in my new LTD if it does. I do love the DD, but I'm looking for a little more bass without sacrificing the highs.

Re: DD question

Thanks BB it was quite helpfull!!
@yes jimmy i was asking you.So i find The jb always...not enough balls!!!I mean i play with a Fred in bridge and it has more mids and cut really good through the mix.Every time when i play live or in the studio ,my lead player begins to cry because nobody hears him.i play a fred.He plays a jb!!!
And Benj.Thanx for your info!!!I played 2 hours ESP Bengal GL signature.Totaly different guitar both in construction and tone. And frankly i was not impressed.
My problem is ,i am loud enough. The Fred is 10.2k.still i am really loud. But guitar sings.it does not scream!!!and is not clear/transparent enough!!!
And what about patb-2.i have no tremolo.does that mean that it is not for a string/neck- thru body wich is way louder(much louder) as a trem guitar???

Re: DD question

:lmao: your lead player gets drowned out? thats pretty damn funny. My SG with the JB in it has been the guitar I've been using live for a while and I've never been drowned out, its got enough highs to be heard... maybe he needs to adjust his eq settings or turn his volume up. The only issue I had with the JB was that I felt it didn't have enough bass, so it really made the highs stick out a had some shrill too it. I mean, I still think its an awesome pickup, but I guess I'm starting to get a little more precise with the exact tone I'm looking for.

I'm pretty sure you can use a parallel axis trembucker without having a trem system. Its different than for example a TB-6, which is a trem spaced SH-6. I hear that the PATB-2 is the loudest passive at like 21K or something. Its darker than the DD for sure. But you'll like the DD.

Re: DD question

with the same amp (marshall jcm900 and 1960 4x12) same adjustments.i am always louder than him.string/neck thru is loud.but not just the tones that i play are loud.everything that i do not want to hear is louder too...

Re: DD question

hmmm.. not quite sure then. I had a Strat (a cheap squier one) with an alder body, maple fretboard and neck with a JB at the bridge and it was super loud to me. I shreeked over my other guitarist's Les Paul Studio. Shreeked a little more than my liking... it really pierced our eardrums, but it was great for two hand tapping! :) Where that guitar is now.. its in pieces in my room and serves as my experiment guitar.
