Got any idea what Seymour and company charge to fix a Screamin Demon that's shorted out?

Should be $65 to repair a broken coil on an SD Humbucker

If the short is merely in the leadwire and not the coil and magnet wire itself, then a new leadwire change would fix that at a cost of $20

Hmmm. Well if your reading shows an open circuit then I would suspect the coil, if it shows a dead sort i would suspect something's between the start and finish, and the 4 cond cable first.

OMG!
You've been a high-end "luthier" for 40 years but, by your own admission, you can't install pups, you can't solder, and you can't find a simple short (that took someone else 5 minutes). What DO you do other than identify wood from pictures and recommend replacement of broken guitars rather than fix them?

And by the way, the "bug up my ass" is you trying to pass yourself off as some kind of know-it-all king guru with "40 years of experience", giving poor advice and mis-information to innocent noobies, and yet in actuality you are a hot-air blow hard who can't even recommend a very simple neck repair. You don't even have the ability to do a simple pup install, or solder job (I don't get it...after 40 years you haven't learned how to do something as simple as solder? Most people pick it up after about 10 minutes. It's not rocket science), or pup-wire short repair (that took someone else "5 minutes flat" to fix it) and try to pass it off by saying that you are utilizing some local experts' expertise. By trying to pass yourself off as some kind of expert or authority who knows better than anyone else on this forum and trying to get kids to believe you because you have "40 years of experience" or because "that's the truth" or because just because you "know", you are misleading the uninformed and easily influenced. You are trying to create in them what Albert Einstein warned about..."Blind trust for authority is the greatest enemy of truth".

If we actually wanted this thread to be constructive you should share what the problem ended up being so if someone has the same issue there's actually a solution available.

My bad. Handed the offending unit over to my partner in crime - Mike Metz of Thesis Audio. He kept clipping off the lead a half inch at a time and retesting the circuit with his meter. Finally got down to about a inch of wire, where it had a kink (possibly from a previous installation). Viola! Circuit complete. So Mike cut off the leads to strip them and added enough new wire to render the pickup usuable even in the neck position should someone want to do so. It had been abused by a previous owner, and now it was ready to unleash its golden vibes. Goes back in the box, and the display case for sale.
