Deal of the century?!?!

Re: Deal of the century?!?!

Uh oh, and Gearjoneser said you were one of the "sick minded" ones!:chairfall :laugh2:

Edit: besides, had I gotten another 5150, it would've been in the trading post. Seriously, what am I gonna' do with two 5150's?! Although I DID get to run my Jackson through both of them in stereo, cranked yesterday! :D ZING!

Re: Deal of the century?!?!

ROFL!:laugh2: I'm glad you guys are sharp! No photoshopping here, just me being a wanker!:chairfall :fing25: My best friend Scott, the one who sings in Unending Blame, he's been needing a guitarist forever, and now that I've got professional gear, I'm in!:fingersx: The 5150 is my friend Phil's, he's the other guitarist, I retubed it for him, and trouble shot his FX loop. The Jackson is his too, I'm replacing the volume pot for him because it's flaky. The green Srat, OTOH, I picked up at a pawn shop the other day, and it is definitely for sale. Actually, both strats are for sale. I finally realized that the small frets just aren't my thing, so those will be up in the Trading post soon. $450 plus shipping takes 'em both!:27:

One thing I noticed while going between the 5150's, is that Phil's 5150 is way darker and has more gain than mine? I even had them dialed in with the EXACT same settings, through the same cab. His is darker, with more gain, but not as articulate and defined. Mine is brighter and crunchier, with less gain, but much more articulate and defined. This is all at bedroom levels though, which brings me to my next point. Cranked in the practice shed, the difference is much more apparent. Mine is much crunchier, and has a tighter bottom end, with way more low end punch. He's just sounds a little weak. Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Although he is running his through an Ibanez "Toneblaster" cab!:27: We've got the same tubes and everything, Groove Tubes in the pre and power section. Any thoughts? They both appear to be stock.

And thanks for not lynching me!:fing25:  I don't think I could handle that much amp!:laugh2:

Edit: Damn you Gearjoneser! One day I'll getcha'!:fing25:

my 5150 sounds a bit cleaner and darker then my buddies.. we both have 5150 straight cabs and we both have early issued 5150's from the early 90's with the block EVH on the front... i don't quite know why his sounds slightly better then mine either.. I've tried some slightly later 5150's with the Signature EVH logo and the seem to be crunchier and brighter then my 5150 too..

ps 2 5150's is a great thing.... i'm honestly keeping an eye out for another dirt cheap one to use as a back up...

Re: Deal of the century?!?!

Try swapping the cabs to see if thats it. Did you bias both the amps the same too?

Re: Deal of the century?!?!

Don't you have 2 tubes pulled on your 5150? or do both of you have 2 tubes pulled?

My best metal tone ever was a 5150 with the pre amp out sent to the efx in of an older JCM 800. That was the sound of doom, bought to the world by 8 x12's lol.
