This morning on the local Craigslist, someone posted 4 Raytheon gray plate 12ax7's, for $20.00 for all 4, and a balanced Sovtek 12ax7wc for 5 more!
They sound great in my old Bandmaster
They even have the bright flash when you put power on them.
This young man was selling them because they weren't "Hi-gain". He traded a guitar for a B52 amp, and these were in it, already marked as to position and strength, so someone had these tubes selected .
I didn't bother to tell him there really isn't such a thing as high gain 12x7a, just some are stronger than average. But, I did tell him that the tubes were worth more than he was asking, after I closed the deal of course!
