Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

I have a dean peace sells with dean active pickups I noticed they are 3 prong quick connects.2 vol 1 tone 3 way switch. I'm interested in the emg 57/66 and I noticed it has a bus and stuff...things which are not in my dean

My questions are can I just plug the emgs Into my existing wiring without an issue, will there be tone loss? Is Dean's wiring setup even compatible regardless of the quick connects? Is it better to just wire in everything the emg set includes and remove the old electronics? Does the dean have s**t electronics? Haha or is it apples and oranges ? Lol any clarification would help

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

What value are the pots in the Dean? EMGs are 25K

There's a very good chance that a simple swap won't be an issue if the guitar already utilizes 3-pin quick connects and a 9V battery.

As for quality of the wiring, it's hard to say, but if it works, then it's probably not worth swapping out until you need to.

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

The pots don't say a value on the back so I can't tell but it's got the same set up as my emg 81 85 I used to have however the new 57/66 have a bus for the pickups and selector want to make sure I wouldn't be restricting the potential of the more expensive pickups by using the quick connect swap I'd rather not switch out the guts if I don't have too but if it help things sounds better I will lol

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

Almost impossible to help without a pic and more info, please post a pic of the electronics of your dean, there is no info on the dean site or the rest of the internet.. Are the electronics in the guitar now quickconnect or soldered?

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

Yeah iv searched the internet with no success either I even emailed emg and dean guitars with no success. I will try to post a photo soon the electronics in the guitar are all soldered but in fact has the quick connects on the back of the stock pickups which is why I'm curious if a wiring swap is worth it or not

Not sure how I tripled the pictures but here's the stock wiring. As you can see it's pretty neatly tucked in and done well I'd rather not re do anything if the 57 66s will just pop in place I just don't wanna restrict the potential of the 300 dollar pickups if I use the stock wiring if that is even a thing

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

What is in the guitar right now? Mustaine Live wires? If so, i dont think its a direct connect.

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

Not trying to sound like an ass but do people not read first? They are stock dean actives and i wannna put in emgs 57 66 the emgs have a fancy new wiring design however still come with quick connects so is it in my best interest to rewire the whole damn thing or just use the old wiring why is this so hard to find out no one anywere seems to have that answer and its a pretty simple question

No theyre not mustaine livewires lmao do they look like it? No...
They are stock dmt (dean) actives thats it no model number cause theyre not special theyre garbage

Yes, they use the same quick connects in the same layout (red-black-white) so they should be drop-in replacements..

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

Agreed, those stock pickups are just generic EMG-knockoffs from China. Crazy how much Dean cuts corners now!

Regardless, the stock wiring in your guitar is essentially EMG-ready. Just plug 'em in and play!

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

Oh, just make sure you have the connector flipped the right way when you attach it to the EMG. If the EMGs don't work after install, it's probably due to having the connector flipped

Re: Dean quick connect swap for 57/66 help?

And more to your original questions, the wiring that is already in your dean should be fine for the 57/66 actives, it wouldn't affect tone (especially since the signal from the EMGs would be driven by the preamps of said active pickups), and the wiring doesn't look bad at all. All of the accessory wiring that comes with the EMG set really just facilitates the quick-connect process, if your guitar is already soldered with wires that terminate with quick connects (as yours does) you wouldn't gain anything, tonally, by swapping all of that out..

Plus you could sell the wiring on ebay and get $20 back..

As you look at the back of the EMG pickup, if the prongs are on the left then the red wire is at the bottom, if the prongs are on the right then the red wire is on top..
