it was a hard choice. i traded it for the mhg one. i wanted one with a v neck on it. while i did like the v neck the neck on the sl was better for me. if i could go back in time i would have never done it. not to knock the mhg series though it was just as good quality and sound wise. in some ways it actually sounded a little better because of not having the thick finish on it. it breathed more.

I have played a bunch of each. No problems with the Soltero at all. It's what you want.
I would also point out in the same statement you said the Single Cut had the best sound AND it probably needed a pup swap....which is it.
I think that soft V is like an HK LEM trigger. Once you get used to it you love it. It's just a little different out of the gate.
The Soltero is definitely one of those great LP's in price/performance. Way better than an Epiphone, yet not as pricey as a real Gibson, with all of the sound and some nice bonusses.

many thanks for all your opinions, they were closely heeded and valued.
This was not a GAS case, but a true need for getting a good LP-ish instrument, and your input helped a lot.
I have ordered a classic black Soltero Standard Special (USA DMTs), which I'm going to coil-tap in the future if it's not done stock, and I'm eagerly awaiting delivery.
After having tested the Standard myself (and loved it) and heard your opinions (14 to 4 ratio for Dean to PRS Singlecut), a decision has been made. A good one, I'd reckon.

I owned a Dean Chafin Del Sol years ago and it was a pretty amazing guitar for the money. There are times when I kick myself for selling it, but I remind myself why when I pick up my keepers. I'm sure you'll love the Soltero.

A vote for the PRS from me on pure asthetics. To me the Soltero shape reminds me of a larger lady squeezing into a belt thats too tight. Sorry if you love it, but the PRS is better proportioned.

I see where you're coming from. Although I really like the Soltero's aesthetics, I must admit the PRS SE Singlecut is, indeed, a hell of a looker. But although aesthetics count in my book, it's still down to sonic characteristics, so different in this particular case.

Boy are those awesome! It's just that I'm a "black guitar" kind of guy, I don't know, it inspires me most, perhaps because it's less of a visual work of art, makes me wanna play it, compensate it's blander look. Or something

That Black one BR posted was the Dean Open House guitar for 2009. It was created on the Dean forum along with the dealer who put it together. The two above were my suggestions. I also submitted the Sunburst with Zebra pups as a choice but the Trans Red was my favorite. Black guitar are Cool. I have a couple Black Deans.
