Debating which pups for an EPI LP classic

I found an epi classic that I really dug, and got really cheap. I'm compleatley redoing the electronics, I've got an original complete gibson harness from an early 2000's LP, and I'm replacing the jack and the switch. for the same price I can either put Burst bucker pros in the neck and bridge, a BB pro in the neck and a duncan custom V in the bridge, or a BB pro in the neck and a 500 T in the bridge. I'm leaning towards the 500 T right now, the output is about the same, and both the Burst Bucker and the 500 are zebra, where the custom thats available to me is double black. Asthetics aside, what combination would you guys and gals reccomend?

I really like the sound of Seymour's C5 in the bridge and '50 in the neck. I've got 2 Epi LP's and 1 Gibson LP set up that way... thats how much I like it... I'd stay away from the Gibson 500t, IMO its not a very good pup, at least for my tastes...

There are a lot of combos that would work for you...It depends what sound you are after...I would try my jazz neck and 59 bridge if I had it..

I'm looking for a high output, yet defined bridge, with a nice round vintage sound in the neck. In my warrior custom I have a PG in the bridge and a 59 in the neck, I really like that combo, but I want something different for this guitar.

Custom-Alnico II Pro ?
How high outpu bridge pickup?
Is it going to be high as in the Eiffel Tower, or HIGH as in the mt. Everest?
Ie. Like Custom 5 vs. X2N

Re: Debating which pups for an EPI LP classic

Custom/Jazz combo is pretty cool. I have this in my Steinberger GU. Although the Custom 5/ APH sounds pretty cool also.

I'm going to try it with the 500, if I hate it I'm going to give the custom a whirl.

Re: Debating which pups for an EPI LP classic

Got her back today and she screams!!!, I can honestly say I like this guitar better than my Gibson 78 I had way back when, the pickup combo works out better than I ever imagined, or the fellow that did the work could either, he spent a couple hours playing it after he finished, and has 3 people who want the exact same thing done to their guitars, The bridge is full yet biting, harmonics galore, the neck is smoooth....and together they are beautiful, smooth and punchy, and on top of that shes a looker too!

I know this probably isnt the best board to post this in, but I will anyway, why all the hate for the 500T?in my epi its a fantastic bridge pickup, I honestly think it could eat a full shred alive in high gain, yet its still articulate and extremely responsive clean, and mixed with a BB both dimed, it rules clean, tons of headroom, it doesnt get muddy, its not super bright, its not an acoustic tone either, far from it ,bottom line its rules, I'm not about to swap out the PG and SL on my warrior, but for the epi, the 500T and the BBpro combo is dead on to what I wanted.

Re: Debating which pups for an EPI LP classic

I have the 500T in my explorer and don't really care for it that much. I think ceramics must give certain tone that maybe I don't care for cuz when I tried the custom a few years back in my Epi LP, I didn't care for it then either. Anyways, the 500T in my explorer just isn't giving me the tone I'm after. I've got this guitar tuned down 1 step and I use it mostly for metal stuff. Think Metallica's "Garage Days" tone. Its kinda mid-rangey. Not really as tight in the low end as I would like, and the highs leave alot to be desired. Its just kinda of nasaly to me. The 496R I like even less. Nothing but mudd to me...

I do like active ceramics like EMG's. I'm waiting for my budget to open up and plan on trying the Blackouts in my Sexplorer.

Always glad to hear the 500T getting props. It's not that different to me from a Distortion.

Re: Debating which pups for an EPI LP classic

After a week I'm still very happy with the combo, both pups work very well togther, I can get a whole range of styles and tones with a twist of knob and flick of switch, I'm actually considering a 500t for my warrior now.

I had a 500T in an SG, and it came from the factory w/coil tap (The SG-X model, I think). I liked it quite a bit in full series HB, and the coil tap had a nice punchy SC sound.

BTW, I installed a SD Jazz in the neck (the SG-X is a single bridge pup model), and I had some wonderful sounds btw the two pups, and various combinations. I was a fool to sell that gtr.
