Delay AND reverb?

Does it make sense to have a delay pedal on at the same time as a reverb pedal? Isn't a delay pretty much just a really long reverb, or are they different enough to have both?

Re: Delay AND reverb?

I would use a reverb with a delay. A delay doesn't create the same sense of space that a reverb does.

Re: Delay AND reverb?

at some cases yah. usally i preffer a slap back delay then reverb to thinken it out.

or i use delay with a slight feedback then reverb.

my boss GT-6 presets has nice patches with delay and reverb turn at the same time.

an all out delay with reverb is to much for me. it feel like its drowning.

i'm usally set my delay and reverb to low settings. past 12 on the settings is to much for me

but sometimes i set the time settings past 12 when i need a sound on sound delay effect. or a tap delay

i also set the reverb's time/decay to max for singing sustain, like an organ sound effect while rotating my guitar's volume knob.

you can also listen to a Hughes & Kettner modeling amp where the settings used delay and reverb at the same time. i just cant find a link. it's a nice clip if your interested

Re: Delay AND reverb?

No reason you can't use both at the same time, but be careful if you are doing it live, it can mush out pretty quickly and no one will hear anything you're playing, just the din of the delay and verb. (If you're playing shoegaze or space rock and that's the point, then pile it on :))

Re: Delay AND reverb?

I ALWAYS keep the reverb active on my Vibroverb, usually around 4 and a half. So for me, of course the reverb stays on when I stomp on the delay.

Re: Delay AND reverb?

Tastefully it can be done. Listen to alot of david gilmour solo's he uses delay with overdrive (and probably some other pedals) and then the whole mix has reverb added (especially on pulse) but its done subtley and well.

Re: Delay AND reverb?

I like to use slap back delay rather than the delay on my Fender Deluxe Reverb - I'm not sure why people go gaga over Fender reverb. Unless it's my 60s external Fender reverb - now That's a good reverb sound.

But anyway, slap back delay makes my sound fat and crisp.

Re: Delay AND reverb?

oh yeah baby! reverb 100% wet with 10 seconds of delay...mmmm, tasty!

Delay and reverb though both time based effects are not the same thing at all. Do some research on the net or pick up a book about effects. Digest exactly in scientific terms what is happening to your guitar's signal. Trust me. It will pay great benifits in the long run.

Re: Delay AND reverb?

A good delay can be tweaked to sound like reverb, but when layered up, they add a lot of dimension. I usually run delay before reverb with chorus in between, all on low settings. To get a more Edge-from-U2 sound, try reverb before delay.
