Delay Settings?

Hey guys, I have been working with a delay pedal but I am having issues getting that type of typical lead delay based tone I have heard.
What type of settings would work for this? I imaging if I spent enough time messing with the pedal, I would get the right combination that turn out some good sounds.

Any suggestions?
I have a pretty full featured delay unit to play with so whatever settings you have I appreciate the post to try out. Thanx.

Re: Delay Settings?

Can you set by note values like 1/4 notes, 1/8 note etc? If so try different values like a dotted 1/4 note, 1/2 note etc. If you know the tempo of your songs in BPM there are plenty of charts around to help you.

Re: Delay Settings?

Try this. Set the delay time to 480ms, if the unit has some kind of tape echo sim mode, use that, if not see if you can roll some of the treble off the repeats. Set the feedback/repeats so you hear two or three repeats at the most. If it has a tape echo simulation mode, these repeats will decrease in volume with each, and become darker in tone. Set the effect level so the delay is about 25% of the level of the dry signal. See what that sounds like and then tweak from there to taste. This should give you a general ambient style delay for single note playing, regardless of song tempo.

Re: Delay Settings?

I will give it a try thanks. I am just looking for a good delayed sound that I hear on lead players when they are doing videos..etc. I am not sure I am explaining it right.

Perhaps I just need to mess with the unit more and find settings that work for me.

I appreciate any help guys.

Re: Delay Settings?

I've always set the delay time at 330ms with approx 8 repeats in either a rack or pedal but always after distortion.

This is very close to what I do in pursuit of the "stadium delay" sound.
