Delay tips?!?!

I run a boss dd3 through my effects loop. Honestly, I never use it `cause I think it sounds kinda... well, it sounds like ****. And at that price... man I feel dumb not to try it first, but I`ve heard only praises and goodwill coments on this pedal and bought it. In retrospect I wonder if I\d be better off with the DD-20... someone using that? My boss ch-1 I am pleased with, I cant image playng clean parts without it(I find no use for it playing with cranked amp).

So, any lethal, kick-ass settings on the DD-3?
Any positive/negative experiences with the DD-20?

...maybe I just should go for a rack multieffect prossessor right away....?:grumble:

Re: Delay tips?!?!

Hello fellow viking! I've always liked the DD series of Boss pedals and I've never heard one sound bad. Care to give us a little more insight into what constitutes it sounding like "****"?

Re: Delay tips?!?!

Run it straight in front of the amp. My DD-3 always sounded best when I did that. It sounded so good I'm buying another one!

My favorite settings are:

Level: between 12 and 1 o'clock
F.Back: Off, at "Min"
D.Time: 12 O'Clock
Mode: 800ms

Level: same as above (it doesn't saturate the signal with delay)
F.Back: 12 O'clock
D-Time: 2-3 O'clock
Mode: 800ms

Stick it on the clean channel, then you sort of work with the times and you can create neat little sound on sound riffs.

Re: Delay tips?!?!

Do you think it sounds bad because it's too bright or something? That's just a characteristic of all digital delays. You can get an analog delay, or an analog-sounding delay.

Re: Delay tips?!?!

You may want to try to the echo setting on the Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo if this is such a big problem. It's very warm and doesn't hurt your wallet. The echo is organic, non-metallic, and sounds similar to the AD-9 if you need a point of reference. The "delay" part of the unit sounds similar to a lot of the digital delays out there, so I dunno, it is what it is. It's actually a lot cheaper than the DD-3 and in many respects is a much better pedal.

Re: Delay tips?!?!

You can run it in front of the amp if you use very little gain. Otherwise you'll just get a wash of crap. Thats what the effects loop is for

Maybe that's why it works well in my setup because I set my gain anywhere between 4 and 6 depending on the song. Which brings up an interesting point, what's Nick Welfare's setup?

Re: Delay tips?!?!

I use a Les paul studio with Alnico proneck/bridge (epi-classic w/EMG backup) and a ENGL fireball head on top of a 4x12" cab.

Current setup (constantly turning knobs and replacing though): guitar> TU-2> SD-1 > amp. FXloop > GE-7 > CH-1 > DD-3 <

I am quite pleased with my tone actually, but when dragging my rig to a gig, I usually end up plaiyng dry(no fx), `cause I cant stand using soundcheck to piss people off twisting knobs and make noise.

Again I think I should get me a BOSS GT-PRO and run it straight to the P.A.
(I figure then I would have the same sound in the reherseal room, on stage and while recording/practising)
But man, the bloody cost...:crying:
