deluxe reverb question

I have a reissue deluxe and I'm wanting to know if its alright to dime it and not damage my speaker. Its the stock speaker thats in it.

Re: deluxe reverb question

Depending on the modelo you have you may not be able to dime it without damaging your ears though.

Re: deluxe reverb question

Of course, if you were lucky enough to damage the speaker, you'd probably have like a 99% chance of an improvement with just about anything you put in there! :)

Have fun with it and if it breaks, replacement speakers really aren't *that* expensive. I'd be very suprised if you damaged it.

Re: deluxe reverb question

I'd put an Emminence Cannabis Rex in there. Or a Texas Heat. Those would be my top two choices.

Re: deluxe reverb question

I play with my DR's dimed...but they have Celestion G12H30 speakers in 'em. If you blow that stock speaker it might be a blessing in disguise if you then replace it with a much better speaker. IMO, the G12H30 will make your DR louder, clearer, deeper and just plain better sounding.

Re: deluxe reverb question

Well, if you stick to the two choices I gave you and the one Lew gave you, there is absolutely no way you'd go wrong. :)

Re: deluxe reverb question

off topic... Hey Lew, what's happening mano?

Life is good! Thanks for asking Scott-mon. Moved everything up to the mountains earlier this year and everything's finally settling in. The store had a great summer...better than when we were in Boulder. Got a new girlfriend I'm totally nutso about. A really sweet and talented soul. She's a classically trained pianist and piano instructor originally from Dallas/Ft. Worth. Long red hair way down her back. Has that sweet Texas accent so when when she speaks she turns a single syllable word like "air" into two syllables: "air" becomes "aa-er". :laugh2: Life is good!

Re: deluxe reverb question

sounds good guys, are those speakers going to alter the voice of the amp in different ways, and what is different about each one? darker, brighter or more clear sounding?

Re: deluxe reverb question

oh and by the way scott if you find any lost drunken okies after the game send em north. :laugh2:

Scott, what is your oppinion about a Greenback (25Watter) in the DRRI ?

I like that sp. but only on B&W - never heard it in real life, as i am stuck on this side of the world for the time being !

Acording to you, how would you describe the Greenback's character ?

Thanx

I know you asked Scott but Im gonna throw my 2 cents in here. The G12M-25 "Greenback" is my favorite Celestion BUT the "problem" with Greenbacks is that IMO, they only sound real good in a pair, or a set of 4 and in a sealed back cab. I have never heard them sound real good in an openback setting...however a G12H30 sounds AMAZING in a DRRI...the G12H30 has the extra bottom end and slightly more clean headroom that the Greenback doesn't have and tnat gives it the edge in a 1x12 open back.

Gotcha . . .

. . . thanx mate !

Thing is, i am not really after huge headroom, and would prefer earlier breakup.

I am just trying to work on a "process-of-elimination", with everything before i decide what components i would like to have in an amp that will suite my music/style of playing !

2007 will be my "grown-up-amp" buying year !
Would like to get it right the first time, you know !

Right now i anly have the all-singing Blues Jr. and want a 30 watter, or there about !
Something that does not have to be pushed to hard for natural break-up.

Both the G12H30 and the Greenback will break up beautifully but since the Deluxe is 22 watts you have a little more room with the G12H30 since is rated at 30 watts where the Greenback is only rated at 25, but the H30 really helps with the botom end in a 1x12 openback combo set up....

Re: deluxe reverb question

ok guys, I put the deluxe through its paces today and i have to say it sounds pretty good dimed with my tele, but I can see where a better speaker might clean some things up with it and make it tighter sounding? Also when I run my sfx 03 through the vibrato channel it seems buzzy as does my bad monkey, I know the bm is cheap but it doesnt sound as buzzy through my blues junior. It was a little bit less buzzy through the normal channel, but I love to have reverb and tremolo for a little more flavor. Will a retube help this any? Or a retube and a new speaker? If you have any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it as I'm still a newbie in the electric guitar world.

thanks, skyking
