deluxe vs deville

ok other than the 212 vs 410 is there really a big difference between these two ?
I've got an HR Deville and have heard a lot of talk about the deluxe being somewhat sweeter sounding .
I thought they were the same as far as power and setting configurations.
For cleans the deville IMO is the MAN .
What's the scoop ?

Hated the Deluxe, loved the Deville. The Deluxe just sounded like it had a wet blanket over it at all times. Just didn't get any clarity, which I tend to like.

Both are great amps, though the Deluxe doesn't really shine until you replace the speaker. I really like the 4x10 DeVille, but the Deluxe's volume is more suited to jams and small gigs.

The main differences between the two are:

Deluxe: 40 watts, 1x12
DeVille: 60 watts, 2x12 or 4x10

What an awesome coincidence. I just posted that the Deluxe would be one of the amps I'd love to have (or atleast try) in another thread. I was sooo close to getting it at Steve's in Toronto a few years back. Lately it sparked my interest again. I hope someone has experience with it.

I guess I need to get more facts.. I was thinking the deluxe was 212. I knew the wattage difference...but am mainly concerned about the tone differences and characteristics between the two.
The deville is IMO a great amp ( other than the weight ) It's clean, and takes pedals really well. The volume is pretty tricky tho'. It likes high volume and the wife and neighbors don't, it's kinda hard to get a really great tone at low volumes unless you leave it on for a while and even then ya gotta play with it a bit.

If you're looking to get something not quite as loud, there's not much point to go from 60 to 40 watts. Yes, one less speaker will reduce the level a bit but not all that much. Your best bet is to find a smaller, 20w or less amp. Maybe one of the Blackhearts or something like that.

i just saw a used Deluxe.... first time in many years i've seen a HR Deluxe for sale used.... i assume since they sold millions of the darn things and they do not show up used very often people must like them... at least around here...

i love the sound of the deville's clean channel!!!!! great amp for using pedals!!!! they can be pretty heavy at 3am after a gig and they are really loud.... Most people i've seen with a HR Deluxe say they use them because they are easier to carry and not as loud as a Deville...

at one point the standard club gig set up in this town was an American Standard Strat, a HR Deluxe, and a Boss Blues Driver... you could pretty much walk into any club and see the guitarist using the same set ups.... if that many people used the same gear it must be pretty good... sure it starts to get too common but why fix what works..

i have not bought a Fender HR series amp yet but i'm sure i'll one day grab one... right now my Peavy C30 and C50 cover what i need...

I only wish there were mods to make it 1/4 power, 1/2 power, 3/4 power and then full power on both the HR Deluxe and HR Deville. If they did have these mods I'd probably use them more. Short of that I think I might have to pick up a Weber Mass 150 or 100.

I own HR Deville 212. I love the clean channel. The drive and more drive are a little harder for me to really decided on since I have to play so loud to really determine. My set up I use is a PRS Soapbar II Maple > TS9 > Delay > EB Volume > Amp. I really like the sound I get. I just ordered two Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers for the Deville. I'm going to install them as soon as they get in! I will keep yall posted.

Not quite but it would be great if something like that was built in from the factory considering the Deluxe or Devilles usefulness is at it's greatest when it is cranked and how often can you do that in a practice setting or in anything but the biggest venues without getting cops called on you. I was thinking more along the lines of the 25% 50% 75% or 100% switch like on the old X100B tube amop heads from the late 80's. I forget if they had the 75% position (probably not) but they had the other positions I listed. Also the Vox amps have them.

Also the Torres Engineering site says the half power switch changes the tone to a smoother sound, something the attenuator wouldn't do and for what I remember the Carvin head didn't change the tonal structure much when you switched power settings, other than volume

My main rig a number of years back was a G&L Asat through a red knob twin
with 25 - 100 watt switching. Great amp but way too heavy and could never
utilise it's full power potential.

Did a deal with a little rich kid for a 4x10 Deville and a Blues Junior.

Best thing I've ever done. The Deville can do just about everything for me,
though I also use a Blues Driver and compressor. I love the head room and
still sounds great on 3.

The Blues Junior is a fantastic little amp that will cover a surprising
range of tones. I often use it as stage foldback and our harp player
prefers it to his Deluxe for all bar the biggest venues.

The HR series can cover alot of situations, but for me the Deville
is the most versatile.
