DeMartini and Bonamassa pickup info

Re: DeMartini and Bonamassa pickup info

I sort of share Bonamassa's philosophy on pickups, in the sense that I'm not an endless tweaker. If the pickups sound good, I keep 'em stock.
If not, I instantly know what to put there, and then keep them there for the life of a guitar in many cases.

I'm more obsessive with having amps I like the sound of.

Yes, very much so. Not to sound naive, but I always thought of Fender as being a above these kinds of things. I honestly don't recall ever hearing anything negative about them.

Same here. I've heard more bad things about Gibson than Fender.

O like the Bonamassa's and Angus's approach, but there's one thing. These guys always have the best in their hands. For example, if I get a Gibson vintage or even a reissue with PAF's I'd never think of replacing pickups. But my reality is Epiphones and Squiers. Sticking with the stock pickups in that case is totally out of question. What do you think?

I wouldn't mess with changing pickups or anything else on a very expensive/rare guitar. I'd probably mess with it for enough time to make sure it's the best guitar for me.

I won't change pickups on a POS guitar though.

However, if you have a comfortable, resonant guitar that just doesn't do the trick when it's plugged in - changing the pickups is the way to go.

Yikes! I wasn't aware that Fender was pulling this kind of garbage.

Wasn't surprised at all... however, it's not like Joe moved to a smaller friendlier company - He moved to Gibson.

I know I shouldn't be shocked by it at all. But yeah, I am constantly hearing people complain about the way Gibson treats them.
