In May I posted a basic primer on cranking power tubes in combo amps to get a metal tone. I've finally posted the second part, which is how valuable a good hot output pickup is to getting a great tone. Using my favorite most popular models, I made demos for the JB, DD, & Dimarz Super D, detailing what attributes I happen to adore about them. Afterward, I was gonna do one for the EMG-81, but when I played it, it didn't inspire me. However, I do appreciate it's popularity & skilled usage by other players.
