I'm not a big jazz-box guy. My Ibanez AF73 gets me by for the times that I feel the need to play one. But I've been lusting after Benedetto, D'Aquisto and [original] D'Angelico jazz-boxes for years. They are works of art...

i cant imagine paying the price of a car for a guitar. Only way I could fathom it if the guitar was magical and made me play like a guitar god.. It blows my mind with so many of the PRS' costing $6k or more.. $30k? fahgeddaboutit!

Be thankful you play guitar... Priced a concert grade harp lately? Upright bass?

People wet their pants about 250k 59 Les Pauls (of which few have actually sold at that price many have sold for less) but then you have people like Joshua Bell who paid 4 million  for a Stradivarius violin.

While I think that 6k for a strat is downright silly we guitar players really do have it good compared to some others.

Dayummm... that's nuts! I LOVE the violin, classical music, etc. I've always thought very highly of Strads based on what I knew of them. A million bucks for one? Sure... why not... if you've got the dough and it really speaks to you. TWENTY-FOUR MILLION BUCKS FOR ANY INSTRUMENT??? That's just INSANE (even if you're a billionaire). The microscopic differences between high-dollar instruments and slightly less "worthy" examples start to get to the point of diminishing returns. It's like achieving more speed in cars and airplanes... it costs a LOT of money to eek out another mile per hour. If you're racing and have the budget... I guess that's cool. If you're playing at $24 million dollar violin that NO ONE is likely to be able to tell the difference between it and a $5 million dollar example... then that's another thing. Anyways... his money, his choice. But I think that's just flat-out insane (and that's coming from someone who's lived most of his 46 year life in the pursuit of musical aspirations).

I still remember in university, I was hanging out with some classical flute players I know. One was talking about she had a $6k flute, and that it was a 'decent, middle of the range flute', whereas her plan was to move up to a $20k one as a good one 'for a starting professional in an orchestra'. Every single sax player I played with had dropped thousands for a decent sounding sax.

We have it SO lucky as guitar players, only having to drop about 3k max on a normal guitar, and about 2k max on a great amp. (Not counting boutique or vintage stuff, of course)
