Destiny

With the "Open back" setting it's a bit thinner in the mids ..there are more highs/less lows...kind of like with a real fully open back cab I guess... again ..usable but the " closed back" setting sounds a lot better to me..

Definitely sounds a lot better than the Sp. Emulated Output that both my Laboga's have. They're way too bassy/muddy and if you cut back the bass they sound hollow & boxy..ie...petty much unusable in a recording.

My Randall T2's Sp. Emulated output does'nt even work. Just garbled bass..

The Orange's is the best I've ever had any experience w/ by far.. it's totally usable.

And the Vox Cab/ Sennheiser e906 with The Super Crush. Just switched the heads , everything else is the same except I'm using the Supercrush's onboard reverb & delay from the Zoom. While the previous clip w/ the Laboga has both reverb and delay from the Zoom.

I'm a bit lazy to start fiddling around with the Two Notes Captor X but I'll get around to it soon :D

This is with my DIY 1x12 semi-open back cab with an Eminence Legend GB128

Amp Settings:

Channel Volume: Dimed
Master Volume : 1
Gain: 6
Treble: 4
Mids: 6
Bass: 4
Reverb: 2
Delay from my Zoom G1X Four in the loop

Mic'd w/ an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic (edge of dustcap)

Sweet ballad tone (and some more deeply emotional tapping) from the Vox cab w/ Celestion Redback + Laboga The Beast Classic 30W tube head...

Mic'd with a Sennhesier e906 positioned midway between the edge of the dustcap and the outer edge of the cone..

The only ones I have much experience with are the Rockerverbs. They sound great. I'd be happy to get my hands on one. Also played a solid state head of theirs a few years ago that was surprisingly responsive and great in the band room for crunchy metallic stuff. No hate for Orange.

I've never played a Rockerverb or any of their big tube heads except for the TH100 which was'nt really my thing. (Too scooped/cold with a really harsh hairy prominent high end..might have sounded better boosted or if I'd spent more time dialing it in...who knows?). But I do like all their lunchbox heads that I've tried..

These larger SS crushes (I have the older 120W model too) are supposed to be solid state versions of the Rockerverb, though I personally have'nt compared them. They do sound pretty similar in many of the YouTube video's though. They got the DNA right ..no doubt about that. They play brilliantly too....so much so that I'm actually pretty sure I could'nt tell the difference in a blind test. Honestly...they do sound, feel and respond like tube amps..

...and done.

Ballad w/ Super Crush and the Vox 1x12/Redback cab. Sennheiser e906 mic (same positioning as the last video w/ my Laboga). Amp settings in the video...sounds pretty ****in' sweet!

Guitar was my Cort with a Fishman Open Core Classic set ("hot-rodded" humbucker" setting) for both the above video's..

And I thought "why not do one with my Crush Pro 120 combo"??? ..so I did. :bigthumb:

Of course..this is with the stock speakers & my Audio Technica AT2020 condenser..so not a direct comparison at all..

However the basic differences (between the two Orange SS amps) are still pretty obvious..

And just for kicks ..one w/ the mic moved up to the edge of the dustcap. Everything else is the same...

Orange Crush Pro 120 Combo:

Man..I had to take this thing down from on top of my Randall head cuz I accidently unplugged the speakers while trying to remove patch cables from the effects loop. It is fookin' HEAVY! The stock "Voice of the world" speakers (which I love ..and one of the reasons I bought the combo) have absolutely massive magnets..way bigger than a V30's..no wonder it's so back-breakingly heavy :laugh2:

...and just for (more) variety:

Laney IRT 120 head + Laney IRT 2x12 + Sennhesier e906 (edge of dustcap). Amp settings in the video. This is with a brighter tone dialed in on the Rhythm/Green channel

....more ballady-ness :bigthumb:

I believe those have the same 50 Oz magnet as V30's and H30's.

Really? You may be right. But my point was they're big heavy speakers with huge magnets unlike most stock speakers I've seen in combo's. V30's are'nt known for dinky magnets either :lmao:

Tone-wise they're more balanced without the strident upper mids. I prefer the cheaper Orange cabs with the these in them to the one's with V30's...can't seem to find those anywhere anymore though. I was looking for one of them when I bought the Vox 1x12 w/ The Redback (no regrets though, it's an excellent cab/speaker) but could'nt find one anywhere. They were all over the place last year. Would'nt mind picking up a few of them (the speakers/drivers) on reverb or somehwere like that If I can come across them...just to have handy. i think they're awesome....

The truth is I'm a sucker for cheaper/stock speaker's that sound awesome. Contrary to popular opinion, V30's are'nt the greatest sounding speakers out there...I mean , if we're talking popular speakers I'd take GT75's and Greenbacks over them all day long.

But I'm all about finding (cheap) hidden gems :D

Apart from Orange's "Voice Of The World" speaker's, I love the yellow basket Eminence "Lady Luck" speaker's that came stock in Epiphone Valve jr. combo's. They're great/even sounding smooth speakers, Eminence has some other nice/cheap one's (my fave of the one's I've tried is the Legend GB128, Greenback style) Selenium (from Brazil, a big name in hi-fi/club speakers)) had a few killer sounding guitar speakers...there was one orange basket one in particular that really sang. A friend of mine had 4 of them in a Marshall 4x12 & that thing was a monster of tone. Korean manufacturer (since the 50's) Sammi speakers MB300 ...& they have a few other great sounding ones's I've heard too, every bit as good as Celestion's, and lately the Pulse PM 12S speaker's (about $40 each) I have in my Laney IRT 2x12 remind me every day how smart I am not to spring $179 or w/e on a v30 and still get better tone from my cab :laugh2:

Like so (Laney amp & cab)..

Laney-IRT-Cab-Pulse.jpg

^^ It's (Pulse PM12S) another one w/ a huge magnet (see it compared to the stock Laney HH speaker). It does have the strong upper-mids/harmonics like a V30 but way smoother/less spiky (and you don't have to wait 40 years for it to get that way) :lmao:

Orange Super Crush 100 and Peavey 4x12 mic'd with my Sennheiser e906. Amp settings in the video. Nudged the treble up a little for a bit of a brighter tone ..Ballad.
