For those who don't know, Devils of Belgrade is my instrumental Stoner/Thrash band from Indianapolis, and we just finished our debut album Tracks of the Cloven Hoof!

I am so excited. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and extremely glad we decided not to go with the typical brick wall / triggered drums / scooped guitar method of modern metal production. The end result is a much more organic-sounding album in my opinion. It's not perfect and there are probably some things I'd change given more time, but at some point you have to be done and move on. Overall I (and the rest of the band) are quite proud of it.

If interested, check our myspace page to listen to the first of nine tracks - called "Swirling Frozen Doom" to get a taste of the record.

Guitar-wise, we used all kinds of cool stuff on this album. Featured in the sample track are a 1967 Martin acoustic and a 1960's Rickenbacker 12 string, along with the usual suspects of VHT, Bogner, and Splawn tones... I'll try to answer any specific questions about the recording that I can.

Ps. Two things to note:

Just throwing this out there - we're letting demand dictate our production and starting with an extremely limited run of two hundred discs. If anybody wants one, PM me to preorder.

Also- the album is FINISHED. While I welcome ALL comments about everything including the mix and mastering job, know that it's past the point of change. Thanks again!

Man that's some killer stuff right there, the 1minute mark where the lead starts to run and goes a little chromatic reminded me of Between the Buried and Me and then the half time that starts around the 2minute mark with the melody playing reminded me of some Darkest Hour. That's some good stuff man, I sent you dudes an invite through the Myspace, waiting to hear some more.

Thanks, man! Those are some pretty crazy bands to get comparisons to, even if it's just in little pieces. I def. appreciate the kind words.

As soon as someone logs into our myspace (I can't from work) you'll be added right away, though I think for the moment the best way to hear more of the music is to preorder the CD! ;)

Or, you know, wait for it to show up on BitTorrent. :D

Lol they were the first bands that came to mind when I heard those parts. I'll keep an eye out for the pre-order information on your myspace, whenever we get these rebate checks I wouldn't mind getting a copy.

By "preorder" I just mean "send me a PM so I can hold a copy back for you."

I'm not taking any money from anyone until we have the CDs back from the presses, and that could be as early as today or tomorrow.

The lead tone is amazing! (I mean the melody line tone)...I really dig every bit of it!
You know i love the Devils alot ,but that recording made me want to listen more....

man i have been WAITING for your stupid album since i joined practically! :lmao: i deff want one! the album cover is very fitting, but you should have stuck with the green-scale theme that was previously on your myspace (maybe its still there i havent checked).

I freakin' love it, Adam. That cover is one of the best I've ever seen. It's a shout to the classic CRGPs - Ultima, Might and Magics, Dungeons and Dragson. Really supports and lives up to the wicked music. Production is EXTREMELY listenable. Stellar!

I liked the green as well, but I think this one looks better against the rest of the cover. We've always felt that a bunch of different logos would suit us better than one we used forever, anyway.

And wait until you hear the real, studio version of Corpseweed. If you liked the MySpace demo, you should like this one a bit more.

This is one of the best reviews I have ever received!

I'm really glad you like the production - I'm happy with it. I find that we managed to avoid a lot of the ear fatigue-inducing frequencies that are so common. The CD isn't much quieter than your average modern metal album, but you can turn it up WAY louder without hurting your ears.

I haven't quite figured out why that is.

Excellent work Adam, and slipping the mix engineer that sly 50 to give the guitar tracks a little extra nudge while the rest of the band were playing ping-pong really paid off. Middle section with the acoustic is fantastic, as are the tasty lines over it. Refreshing to hear some real drums and some midrange in the guitars. You should be proud of yourself and your buddies. I look forward to hearing more. Congratulations on a fine achievement.

I too like how I don't feel as if I'm listening to the whole mix through 3 compressors. As a guitar player, it sounds like real guitar and is more fun to listen to than listening to a CD where it sounds as if somebody set their Casio keyboard to "rock band" and just pushes down the key :laughing:

I love the bridge with the legato playing and more classic tone --- it's good to hear a metal song that is not walled in by the "meedly-meedly-meedly-MEEEEEE!" solo paradigm

Great work, high five!
