DG-20 EMG set...

My nephew picked up the DG-20 EMG set this Christmas. He plugged it into the peavey classic 50 and I was seriously impressed with the tone and the variability of the loaded pickguard. It will sound like anything between a strat and a hollowbody jazzbox.

Install was easy. The mid boost and expander controls are neat and effective. The end result blew me away.

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I'll put in a me, too. Have had it in and out of 2 different guitars in the 3 years I owned it. Right now, thinking of putting it back in.

Seem to be as good as any other noiseless single coil sized pickup and absolutely silent.

My problem is that I want my cake and eat it, too. I want true single coil tone, aesthetics and **no hum**. I'm hoping the Stack Plus is the ticket....

Try the SVA's.

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I am an emg user but i have never tried the DG set........and i was always searching for some clips mainly to see how the spc influences the sound......does anyone have any clips with the spc set at 0 and then at 10???

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I have used the DG-20 set and I like it myself! Its a unique sound but very good IMO (though its not for everyone). The EXG and SPC make the tone though. I dont like SA's without both of those controls!

Makes the Single sound alot more like a bucker! It really adds ass to the sound (hotter and bigger)! Hook a SPC to a Duncan Distortion and play metal, it will be the meanest sounding thing you ever heard!

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I have a similar system called the EMG PSC-6. It's just like the Gilmour set-up with the EXG and SPC control but I decided to go for the brighter sounding S pick-up. I've used all kinds of single-coil pups and I always go back to these for my single-coil needs. It doesn't quite have the amount of quack I would like in positions 2 and 4 but with the tone modules, I can get it pretty damn close. I've heard more quack from other single-coils but the quack comes at the expence of the distortion tone. Too scratchy a tone. My EMG's sound the best overall, smooth and powerful. Just awesome. :usa1: :usa1: :usa1:

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

BTW,
I installed an on/off switch for the bridge pup so that I can get two extra tones not available with 5-way switch alone. Now I can get the neck & bridge together and my favorite clean tone, all three pups at once. Set the EXG control at 4 with the SPC off and the crystaline tone will blow you away.:reporter:

When I had the DG-20 I did the same mod and you are correct! That mod works great with them!

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I've been wondering about swapping the SA's out with S pickups. The SA's were not bright enough. I actually ordered a set of SV's but canceled after the place I ordered from said it would be 6 weeks to get a set in ivory. Someone who had the SV's said they had less treble than the SA's. Don't know how true this is, there's not a lot of feedback on the SV's on the net.

I know how they are "supposed" to sound with the spc............i would actually liked to HEAR on some clips how the spc influences the sound.......

I am sorry!!!!! I was trying to help becasue nobody most likely has these clips at all!!!! It seems like I explained it to you and you got a offended!! Sorry I tried to help!

Like I have said before on here, everyone is so hung up on sound clips. Recordings dont capture the vibe of the sound. I have done this experiment many of times at my friends studio. Listen to Duncan clips of pickups you have played. They sound sort of like the real pickup but, it dosent capture the pickups personality. On the Duncan buckers a number of them sound the same in the clips even though they are way different in real life.

:smack: sorry i didn't mean to be rude or anything......you can easily understand that typing something on your keyboard is not as "expressive" as when you are actually talking to somebody.........consider also the fact that i am not as fluent in english as you are....and you should also consider the fact that everybody seems to be talking about the DG system but we never get to hearing how it soundssss...:yell: :yell: :yell: :yell: :yell: :yell:

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

If someone tells me how to record a clip and post it on here, I'll be glad to make one. :burnout:

Re: DG-20 EMG set...

I reinstalled the DG20 today. Made a couple of poor quality Mp3's and will store on my web space. I don't know if posting the files directly is OK with the admins so visit my profile and go to my web site. The only files on the site are 2 Mp3 files.

This is just guitar into a Univalve with an old 5881 on low voltage. this is fed through a Palmer PDI-09 then to a Presomus Firebox. Just wanted to make something very simple that shows the effect of the EXG and and SPC. The file "1.mp3" is the "Roll" (low gain) channel on about 5, "2.mp3" is the "Rock" (high gain) channel on 10.
