DI pedalboard

I need to build a DI board for live playing. Looking at the Boss ir-2 and ir-200 along with Tonex stuff... The boss stuff sounds solid. The Tonex is certainly capable but having endless options never ends well for me and constantly getting new "packs" doesn't either.. I love the Friedman stuff but would require a bigger board and power supply.

What's working for you live?

Also look at the new Fractal AM4. You get all the Fractal amp models with a bunch of cab models and slots for effects, too. Designed for DI rigs.

I have been looking at those. A touch out of the budget I have in mind but not by a lot. Honestly if I am going that high I should include a Katana and the switch they have with it as that is about the same price range as the Fractal. I get an amp too in the process...

I want to keep the rig as small and light as I can and durable as well. $500 is the cap I have in mind but if a solution that hit all the marks came in at 700, I could probably find a way. I would always prefer an amp but the venues around here are challenging with how low the amp volume needs to be to get a good mix at a reasonable volume. I guess a DSL 40 and a Captor might get it done but the a quiet stage with my own in ear mix has a lot of advantages

I was looking at the BOSS stuff because it sounds good and has a track record for reliability. Not 100% sold though. ir-2 could really use a 3rd channel. The IR-200 includes good EQ, Reverb and a solo boost. I suppose I could use and ODR-1 / OD-3 / EP3 as a boost to get the equivalent of additional channels. The Tonex solves some of those issues but introduces the problem of paralysis from analysis which I know will be an issue for me which would also be a concern with the AM4

Perhaps I just need to suck it up and get what I need to make the Friedman IR-D work. I know its great and Friedman stuff is built like a tank. A lot of additional pedals needed though

Welcome to the quagmire that is my head...

Have a look at a used Atomic Firebox, it's really nice and within your budget. And there's a really nice Friedman BE model ;)

If you go with just pedals, how are you going to amplify it to hear it onstage? IEMs, or some sort of monitor?

I use a POD Go. It isn;t Fractal/AX-FX/Kemper level - but has more than enough cabs and effects. Still under 500 I think. All the same Helix algos as the big boys.

What are you gonna play with it?

Start out by understanding what sounds you need- then figure out if you have to switch between them quickly or edit them on the spot. These answers will help narrow your choices down.
