DI solo tracks (80s LA metal) -- DankStar, look here!

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
Following up on my DI thread a few days ago, I just finished tracking the solos for the first song.
These are raw tracks, unbalanced, DI with Logic Pro X modeling on them, not the final reamp guitar tracks.

Took about 3 hours to write and record all of the leads.

DankStar asked if it was harder to track solos DI than live through a mic'd amp ... we both reckoned it is, and I still agree, but it's definitely possible to get good solos this way, just takes a bit more digging in.

Pls forgive the rough and ready nature of the tracks as well as the jump cuts; these are taken from several spots over a very long song. The first bit is an 80s LA metal riff I wanted to put a melodic, Lynch-like solo over. Second bit is part of the 70s funk rock section. Third bit is improvised madness. :)

Thanks for listening! Yes, it's serviceable for getting a general idea down but really don't like LPX's amp sims at all!

For some reason I can't do soundcloud clips on my iPad but when I have access to my laptop in a coupla days I'll definitely circle back. I really dug the last tunes I'd heard (the two part epic). I love 80s stuff so I'm sure I'll dig it.

Ah, it's the fact that iPad won't support embedded Flash. Happens on my iPad, too.

cool - my favorite part was from about 1:15-1:50 (like you were really feeling the solo & in the zone). sounded like more gain than you typically use, dig it!
