Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

Nice to hear that they were so straightforward about the information. Completely understand their point of view.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

They are in the business of making money veneer is cheaper. I can't see how adding an additional layer of glue is going to help the resonance of the guitar body in any way. This is really an option for you guys that like pretty figured tops , people like me that couldn't care less what their guitar looks like it will never be an issue. I have spent $500 on a Warmoth neck and it really wasn't worth half of that but I probably will do it again eventually to put an ebony board on a Strat go figure.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

It would be desirable to still have the traditional, full-thickness cap option on the strict understanding that you are willing to pay the price for it.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I believe Edwards Les Pauls with figured tops have been built this way for a long time.

My concern would be the sonic dampening caused by the extra glue layer. Not worth compromising the tone for a visual effect for me.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

Makes me wonder whether there is something behind the rumors of Gibson doing the same.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I knew about it a while back.

Honestly, as long as the craftsmanship/process is executed well (and I trust Warmoth to do that before selling the things), I'm quite sure that very very few would be able to tell the tonal difference between that and a slab of maple or whatever top wood.

As for Gibson doing a similar thing... they would never openly admit to using multi-piece laminated tops with veneers. If they used em, they'd try to hide it in polished up marketing copy instead of being open and honest. And that's why people love to sling feces at Gibson.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

Can't talk about Warmoth but my Michael Kelly has a paper-thin figured veneer over a full-thickness plain maple top and I am a-ok with it.

The only thing I would be against in fact would be either if I a) were lied about it or b) asked to pay full price, hence turning the cost cutting into pure profiteering.

Michael Kelly does it so their guitars will be both affordable plus look the best they can.

Whether I would be ok with Warmoth (or anyone for that matter) will depend pretty much solely on whether I will be asked to pay less, the same or more than a full-thickness one-sheet top.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I thought this was going to be about that ugly bump/hump they put on some of their head stocks now

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

Everyone wanted a nice pretty figured wood top, but resources are getting low. I don't see a problem if they're honest about it.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I've always been 100% satisfied with everything I've bought from Warmoth, custom or otherwise. I think it's good business to be open and honest about this change up front. If you really can't stand to not have your top one piece instead of veneer maybe you should look at a different company. As for me I'm still a loyal customer

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I don't understand why they stopped offering the lp flat top style. That was my favorite.

Re: Did Anybody Else See What Warmoth is Doing?

I wish they'd do the carved top strats again.

Those are sweet.
