so its been a week or so now since i've changed my pups and i've noticed only with any overdrive/distortion the buzz from just the pups can be kinda quite bad and when i use my pots they are REALLY scratchy which they wern't before... so help me out did i fry em?

Re: did i fry my pots?

which would in fact fry em if i did it that way and over heated them right?

Re: did i fry my pots?

ack i guess i'll change those next weekend... it will give me a chance to make it look neat in there though since it was the first time i've done it.... thanks.

Re: did i fry my pots?

You should really have two soldering irons. One high wattage one 50w and one gerneral purpose 30w. Use the 50w one for attatching ground lugs. With the higher wattage you don't have to heat up the pot as much to get a good ground.

Re: did i fry my pots?

i only have one but it is a 30 watt.... it was my first time through though...

Re: did i fry my pots?

Check them with a VOM first to see if you get the proper reading. If the pots are 250K then you should read around 250K ohms on your meter (300K with 300K pots, and 500K ohms with 500K pots). If your reading is around these values then I'd have to say the pots are OK and the problem lies else where.

(This needs to be done with the pots turned all the way up)
