did randy rhoads use the wammy bar alot? i know he had a wammy bar on 2 of his guitars. but did he use them alot?

I'm pretty sure. Not listening to it and just hearing it in my head I remember a part in the solo where the band stops and it's just him for a few lines and he's yanking on it pretty good. I could see where he could get close bending behind the nut but on the studio cut it sounds pretty extreme. When I was about sixteen I remember that little breakdown just giving me the chills. Damn he was good.....

alacee is right. I read an old interview that Randy thought the whammy bar was too closely associated with EVH so he rarely used it. I only saw hin use it on suicide solution, most of his bends were behind the nut. He also was not happy with being a rock star or touring with Ozzy and wanted to leave rock and go back to teaching and playing classical guitar.

He used the whammy bar a bit, but according to Zakk Wylde who got an EXACT replica of Randy's guitar (and MAde by the same person) said the trem cwas crap and didn't stay in tune but he wanted it just like randy. ALSO Randy bent his NECK alot.

Randy's polka dot V never stayed in tune. Karl Sandoval built it out of spare parts. The neck is off a Danelectro, which had no truss rod, and didn't stay in tune too well. He shaped teh headstock. The bow tie inlays were just additions onto standard dots. The hardware was all fender- fender trem, fender tuners. Karl fabricated a body and glued the neck on. It was built for show. Karl subsequently built "replicas" of the guitar, that while they looked the same, were much more stable and better built, like a neck through Jackson.
I can't comment on the white V, except he designed the RR-1 to have better upper fret access.
Though with Zakk- I could see him haveing problems with any guitar staying in tune just due to the strong attack he has while playing.

Listen to the album Tribute and you can hear what sounds like Trem work on a lot of tunes... He did do lots of bending the neck and behind the nut tricks.... very cool..... Bending the neck is something you have to be careful about.... On Tribute i would think Believer, Suicide Solution and his Solo has some whammy bar use...
Randy was a huge figure in my Teenage years learning to play guitar.... I wonder why they have never re-released the Canadian only EP with 3 Randy era live tracks.... Here in Canada around 81 they released a Live 3 song mini EP with Mr Crowley, You Said It All-(not released anywhere else), and Suicide Solution... It was out on Tape, LP, and a special rare Picture Disc.... Those Picture Disc's go for big money at Canadian Record shows.... I wish those 3 tracks get released on cd oneday!
I bought the 2 Randy era Quiet Riot lps at a record show once... they are awful. It's hard to believe Randy went on to such greatness after hearing those lp's... I'm still more surprised that Quiet Riot had some hits later as well...

Randy used his white Jackson for "Over the Mountain" live. Pretty sure that guitar was tuned a half step down and the Les Paul and polka dot V were tuned standard. Oh , the white Jackson had a trem.

An endorsee and a major force behind Grover Jackson.
The first Jackson's were RR model guitars built for Randy.
Grover didn't want to give bad press to the Charvel name if the first Jackson's didn't go over well, so he put his last name on the headstock.
