wow....i just had the top e string tuning peg snap off my fender showmaster......there is my string and tuning post just dangling..lol..wtf?.....so any body got a ball park guess what a set of new tuners and the install is gonna run?

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

if one is weak enough to break under tension..they all need to be replaced....this might be from taking this guitar off shore for 3 years while i was a chef on boats.

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

Somone had some fender tuners in the trading post a few days ago for $30 bucks or so. Install them yourself. All you need is a screwdriver and maybe a socket for the nut.

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

it's really not that easy to screw up a tuner install.

few things to remember though:

a) make sure you get the right tuners for your neck - measure the width and depth of the holes to compare mounting specs for the tuners you're looking around at.

b) Tuner mounting screws usually are pretty narrow, so there's little point in drilling a pilot hole, but when you do drill mounting holes, make sure you are using the right drill bit, and make sure you are drilling down to a depth that will be able to take the whole screw without much fighting.

c) lube up the screws with a little beeswax or candle wax prior to mounting. If they still get tight/stuck in the holes, take em out, and maybe re-drill the hole very carefully and try again. There is nothing worse than installing a new set of tuners and accidentally stripping out the philips head of a tiny screw that you don't have any more of, just because the mounting hole was too short or the screw wasn't waxed enough.

Good tips.

But yeah.

If you can twist a screwdriver then you have enough skill to change tuners.

Good luck.

The only thing you can really mess up with tuners is the small screw on he back. I see people crank those things down, and they are meant to me just snug.

Are these the tuners you have now?

no sir..i have locking tuners...and thanks for the replys..and i can in fact turn a screw driver.

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

But are they the two pin style?

If so, you can drop in a set of Schaller (vs the Ping).

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

seriously, i installed my own set of locking tuners. really not hard. just be sure to get ones that fit on your guitar, otherwise you have to drill the headstock, and you don't want to do that yourself.

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

I was playing a gig with my dad and two of the pegs on his bass snapped off at different points in the gig.

I brought my jazz bass as a backup to his ibanez, I was surprised at how flimsy that metal is. Any tuner models that snap should be put on some sort of 'shiete gear list'

Re: die cast parts suck....just sayin

I've never heard of tuning pegs just snapping off for no reason. Maybe I don't get out enough, but I suspect that, like some headstocks, tuning pegs can be weakened by contact with alcohol.
