Re: Diezel D-Moll Demo
Nice. It sounds like a guy could conjure up some Gilmour tones out if that rig.
I also listened to the next one down with the Diezel, a Splawn QR, and a Bogner. Could you elaborate on what's going on in that track? Is that the QR doing the rhythm parts?
All three amps are played over a backing track from the internet. The solo repeats 3 times: 1st D-Moll, 2nd Quick Rod, 3rd Goldfinger 90. I didn't use any overdrives or boosts, just straight into the amp.
Sounds great bro! Some nice, melodic lead playing and I can hear the signature Diezel liquidity and sustain even at bed room levels. I have yet to play the D-Moll. How do you think it compares to the VH4, Hagen and Herbert? What were your amp settings there, if you don't mind me asking?
Hmm, well the D-Moll is definitely a versatile, 100w powerhouse, but it's not the quad channel monsters like the VH4 or Hagen. I think the D-Moll is different overall. It's kind of a cross between the Herbert and Hagen I suppose. It's less hi-fi than the Einstein was, so that to me makes it more versatile because it doesn't necessarily sound like a metal amp trying to do other styles. I think the clean and crunch sounds can be very convincing. Like all Diezels, the D-Moll has a big low end, but it's very controllable. In fact, the controls are very sensitive and it only takes a slight turn of a knob to change the sound. The Herbert is kind of the Marshall style thing, and the VH4 is more of the hi-fi Diezel thing. The Hagen is interesting in that it's more natural sounding than the VH4 but doesn't sound like the Herbert. Though I like the overall sound of the Herbert more, I like the way the mids stand in the Hagen more than the Herbert.
The D-Moll mids stand like the Hagen. Initially, the D-Moll seems kind of like a dark amp. However, it's as deceptive as the Ecstasy 101B which sounds dark but seems to always sit perfectly in a mix. The D-Moll has that kind of quality. I suppose the base tone is kind of dark, but the mids are prominent and the presence has a bright edge - something I always hear in KT77's.
How would you describe the feel of the amp?
It has 3 channels and they each feel different. Strictly talking about feel here:
Channel 1 - It has a feel that's kind of a cross between a Bogner Shiva and a JTM45. It's not like a Fender, but it's not as dry as a JVM.
Channel 2 - More unforgiving, tighter feel. Excellent for tight rythms or beautiful cleanish chords. Gets a more liquid feel when gain is pushed above 12:30.
Channel 3 - Kind of unforgiving, not as unforgiving as channel 2. Starts getting liquid around 11:00 with mid-output humbuckers.
