Diff tween 59 and Pg in the neck?

Re: Diff tween 59 and Pg in the neck?

My experience with both those pups has been the following:

1. PG
-Compresses very well - is round and tight when pushed with high-gain.

2. '59
-A bit "glassier" than the PG. Still smooth, but not as fat.

Both are great pickups. I like the PG the best. It was meant for a Les Paul.

Doc Barlo would tell you that the difference between an A2 59 and a PG would be that the PG has a bit more upper-mids.

the bottom on the 59 is much deeper than that of the pg

The PGn is smoother, warmer.
The 59n is glassier, with more of an edge.

Both sweet, depending on your style.

They're pretty close if they both have A2s. Just the PG would be a little brighter.

Jeremy's right on! The PG has less bass and like the Seth Lover and Antiquity, that makes it easier for me to get a clearer rythym tone.

Generally, a2 gives a humbucker more mids and softer bass and treble. But the PG uses unbalanced coils which makes the mids more transparent and brighter and the treble a little more extended.

I kind of like alnico 2 HB's like the PG, Seth and Antiquity for the neck position and the 59B or 59TB as a bridge bucker, where the deep bass of the 59B is more appropriate...tho the a2 CC sure works well in my semi hollowbody Monoco.
