difference between ESP and LTD

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I bought my "Brand New" LTD EC400VF in beautifully flamed tobacco sunburst for $550...all traded out...no cash. So I think I got a pretty good deal on a pretty darn good axe. I have 2 Epi Les Pauls and this LTD is better than either of them. (and they have upgraded pups-this one is stock). I do appreciate all the help!!

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

Hmm, until yesterday I would have said that LTDs are simply not worth it, depending on the price they can have superior components but generally the construction wouldn't be the tightest...

Today however I played this...
PH-600.jpg

That one was one great guitar. Yeah, it had a couple of rough ends but nothing I couldn't live with for the kind of money they were asking for (1240€ list, 840€ cash...) which was a little less than half what the ESP model was.
I'm guessing however that's because this one is a signature model (didn't know who the man was but that's another story) and the guy himself said in the artist's video that when he's "working" he prefers using the LTD over the ESP, sth about the LTD sounds denser or sth. In any case, a great guitar. If only it wasn't the only ESP/LTD with DiMarzios...

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I have played and owned/returned a few high end LTD models. For $1000+ LTD, the features justify the cost, but the quality belongs in the mid range price. For maybe 2-3 hundred more, you could get a much better quality/sounding ESP. I would not pay 1000+ for an LTD. Not worth it in my opinion. Get an ESP!

I don't think there are any LTDs over $1k, except possibly signature models. The only LTD sig that catches my eye is the Ahrue Luster Viper with the spade inlays. My vote for best LTD is the EC-400VF or (AT).

But maybe I'm biased :D

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I Love my EC 1000 deluxe in vintage honey burst, a great choice if you want to avoid the abalone inlay overkill. lol.

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I have an LTD bass. Lots of bang for the buck. I got a 5-string and active pups for a price that no other manufacturer could touch!

Thats HOT!

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I just went to the LTD spec sheet and my EC-400-VF comes with SD's "59 (n) and JB (b). No small wonder I thought it sounded so good right out of the starting gate!!

There's quite a few now, which are mostly LTD sig models as price has gone up since last year.

It has every little quirk that right now I'd want from a guitar:
It's Alder neck thru, MAple neck, Ebony fretboard with no inlays, locking tuners and graphite nut (the ESP has Sperzels and Graph-tech, AFAIK the only difference spec-wise), a Wilkinson VS100 in full floating mode a Bucker in the bridge and a single in the neck.
It's so insanely me that if you'd wipe his sig out you just called it the KeeperOS sig I'd byte :p

Yes and no, they now go a little over the 1K but that's usually list price, like the one I posted above, the street price (cash) is still 840...

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

The LTD is decent.
No on par with the ESP Standards overall though.

And for almost the same amount or a little more than the LTD Deluxes you can get an (ESP) Edwards from
Japan.
Which is a lot closer in quality and build to actual ESPs than LTDs are.

But, you have to order from Japan. (only 3 to 5 days shipping to get from Japan)
I rarely hear of anyone having a issue with a Edwards.
Most (mine included) come flawless.
The QC in impeccable on them.

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

Heh, you must have missed my post in an Edwards thread...
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?p=1705657#post1705657

Yeah, been thinking of getting one of those myself, still, I just can't bring myself to shell out that kind of money for a guitar I've never even seen, much less played...

In short you've NO IDEA how much interested I'd be in any personal experience with those guitars...

Well, all I can say is my experience with my Edwards LPC Sykes has been great.
I've had her over a year now.
No issues what so ever.

TC seems to be pleased with his new LPC overall.
Many others of us on here have been happy with them.

Again the QC seems to be very consistant.

I'd have no problems ordering another Edwards from Japan.

and I would assume the Kiko has a thin neck profile.
Shredder neck if you will.
Since he is a Uber Shredder.
Makes me want to quit. :crying: ;)

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

Oh I am fairly certain of how great their LPs are, I was interested in peoples opinions on their Horizon styled models, especially compared to the LTDs and ESPs...

I had an H-400. I got it because I really liked the body shape. But it didn't sound very good I thought. Thin, trebly guitar for overdrive. Very good clean tones though. It was also very light which was weird, it sort of felt like a toy. I didn't get that. The MH-400 was of the same woods/construction but much heavier. I ended up getting rid of it.

Re: difference between ESP and LTD

I've mostly been unimpressed with LTDs too. The other day I played one, I think it was that slayer signature or whatever and felt really cheap. However even more recently I played another, again a signature based on the horizon that cost a tad more and felt really solid. However the difference in price between that one and the two Edwards I posted above is relatively small so I'd be interested to know how much more of a guitar that difference would buy me...
