I realised that there is 2 types of singlecoil type and was wondering if the model fits in my guitar. Also are these pickups interchangable by pickup covers? Heres the difference types

and the other

So does both model fits into this guitar?

Any help will be much appreciated thanks

Re: difference between singlecoil pickups types?

The covers should fit, however the first pickup has a traditional lip like most strat pickups. The second doesn't have a lip like the ssl5/6. I am pretty sure you can get whatever you want built on the second kind of bobbin from the custom shop and it may only be a "shop floor custom". Dimarzio lets users specify bobbin style for a minimal charge. I would check into getting a lipless custom before routing.

if i was getting a lindy fralin, can i request one? How do i specify the request? Is it "lipless" or any ither terms. Thanks alot guys

You are located in OZ, same as Lindy - contact him direct instead of going to SD forum....

Ozzies just don't get it!

arghh kinman woodstock sounds great..but too expensive!!!

Re: difference between singlecoil pickups types?

Kinman pickups are Aussie though

Red Rock is, too.

Unfortunately NONE of these answers re Fralin and Kinman have anything to do with the original question :laugh2:

Both pickups are available from SD on a "lipless" bobbin at no upcharge (but a slight wait). The reason SD uses the "lipped" design as standard on the SSL-1 is that it is vintage correct athat way and that PU is supposed to be a vintage reproduction.

Covers for both are interchangeable.

If you were to order a Fralin you would want to specify either" lipless" or "to fit an EMG SA rout", which essentially means the same thing ;)

Alternatively, if you´re careful you can file or grind the lip off.

I just picked up a PJ set for my bass last week, NIB for under 30$..... But I don´t know if they´re still in production... lansing Electronics was /is the european distributor...

The set listed for 198$, though, which isn´t exactly cheap even in Australian FunnyMoney ;)
