Differences between Replifex and Intellifex

What are the differences between Rocktron's Replifex and Intellifex rack effects units? I'm looking into getting one because of their reputation, but need to figure out which one to get. Also, there are different versions of the Intellifex unit (original, LTD, etc). Is one better than the other? Or is there a superior rack effects unit other than these two?

Re: Differences between Replifex and Intellifex

The replifex has more effects and a programmable eq. The intellifex has 4 effects bases, but it does those 4 extremely well. Like all rocktron products, they share a lot of they same features, 7 pin midi out to power the midimate, built in hush, etc.

The replifex can switch your amps channels as well, but the reverb and delays are not as good as the intellifex.

The best model intellifex is supposedly the original blackface model, which is what I have, but I have not compared it to the others.

The g-major is a good unit as well except for the reliability issue, a lot of people have had to return thirds cause the rotary knob just fell off. They may have fixed this in the g major 2.

In terms of cost, the older rocktron stuff is cheap and amazing sounding. ~$150 for a blackface intellifex.

The g majors however can get pretty expensive.

Re: Differences between Replifex and Intellifex

The Intellifex has only time-based effects, doesn't it? Chorus, flange, reverb, delay, and I think pitch shifting. That's pretty much it, though all were very high quality.

The Replifex, which according to the ads was intended to replicate classic floor pedal effects, includes effects like a compressor, EQ, tremolo, rotary speaker and phaser in addition to the effects included in the Intellifex. I forget if it has a wah. I have a Replifex, and all the effects are great quality, even if the delay, chorus/flange and reverb aren't as high quality as the Intellifex. The extra effects make it handy to have around.

Re: Differences between Replifex and Intellifex

They are completely different units...

The Intellifex was designed to be a studio quality unit with digital delay, reverb and modulation (chorus/flanger)...

The Replifex was a digital rack unit that was designed to sound and operate like a bunch of stompboxes...for the guy that was used to using pedals but wanted to go rack...like a pedal board in a box.

Both are cool units...I used to use an Intellifex when I ran a rack set up and liked it a lot top be honest.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I bought the Intellifex LTD. It came via UPS yesterday and my first impressions are that it's a fantastic unit. It has a very organic feel to it.
