Which is better? A or D? I have a DD-3 and its OK i guess....Just never had an analog delay and was wondering if there was a big difference.

Analog ones are in general warmer in sound and more natural, digital generated echoes, delays etc seems to sound "synthetic". From my exp it's better in playing some blues/rock style, but in heavier styles you'd better like the digital. Good idea is of course go DIY, the most popular one is Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay analog, pretty easy and cheap components to build and a lot of fun

Generally speaking, I'd use digital for longer delays and analog for the shorter slapback kinda stuff. Analog also brings a bit more to the table when playing clean for me (especially one with lush modulation), but it can get a little mushy when in front of a dirty amp.

That sounds like it would be fun....where would one find these kits you speak of?

Seymour Duncan Deja VU gives you both options soundwise, or you can blend them. Its also got tap tempo which is something analog delays generally lacking in pure analog delays. Having said that, i kinda like the sound of a real analog like a boss dm-2, an old maxon or mxr carbon copy. Anyway, the SD is a pretty amazing unit and can be scored for cheap these days.

Neither is "better". Each technology offers different possibilities. Probably best to have some of each.

Depends on the delay and how the circuit is designed. My Caroline Kilobyte is a lo fi digital delay that is anything but sterile... there's several lo fi delays out there by boutique manufacturers that are warm and fat.
I think the digital Tape Delay simulators serve their purpose because there aren't many people who have ever actually played through a tape delay so nobody knows the difference.
My 1981 Deluxe Memory Man has a sound that is unbelievable with a depth and richness that would be hard to emulate... real Echoplex and Space Echo units are the same.
I've heard great things about the Hardwire delay as far as it's price point vs sound quality (company has really good programmers churning out great budget pedals). Most people that have a BOSS RE-20 don't complain... that's another good digital emulation. Lots of great choices out there.
