digitech chorus factory

Re: digitech chorus factory

I heard it in Frankfurt, and it sounded good. The thing that strikes me is that they've chosen to model other brands of chorus sounds. It seems to me that it's slowly becoming more rare that a designer actually creates a sound anymore. Even the boutique manufacturers are doing a lot of recreations. I'd like to see more people actually make a sound, especially in the analog domain than all this digital modelling.

Although all of this modelling stuff makes for very good "firsts" because if you said "what should my first chorus pedal be?" I might say the Digitech, because it can introduce you to different flavors. Then when you're ready for the real thing, you may have narrowed it down to two or three favorites. Because it definitely didn't sound as good as a "real thing" to me, and I've played all the original boxes they're modeling. There's an analog sweetness that's missing.

Re: digitech chorus factory

so frank, are the tones at least usable? the two in particular are the chorus/flanger models.

Re: digitech chorus factory

Completely usable. They're every bit as good as any digital chorus pedal. I just don't like an A/D converter when I don't have to have one. Especially if someone puts it between their guitar and amp. Then you've gone A/D-D/A before you've even hit your first gain stage at the amp. I do like how they put a cabinet voiced output in there, so the newbie can run it after his overdrives, or out of his amp send straight into the board or his soundcard.

It's a lot of nice features for the money, and since most chorus pedals nowadays ARE digital, there's really no big loss here. Half of their models are of other digital pedals anyway. And it's good that one of their models is of their own sound, so they're not guilty of just playing copycat. But the digital models of expensive analog pedals pretty much just sound like digital chorus.

Re: digitech chorus factory

I'm just wondering why they modeled the Boss CE-5 and CH-1, but not the CE-1. But for a chorus modeler, I am more atracted to the Boss CE-20.

Re: digitech chorus factory

I also want the ability to have some sort of flange going on. I also like the stereo option.

Re: digitech chorus factory

I really should go and try one instead of just wondering what it sounds like, the only Digitech pedal I've ever owned was the Jimi Experience pedal, and I really enjoyed it (seening as I usually stick to analog pedals) I'm just thinking that I'm going to be disappointed due the whole digital aspect of it.
