Digitech GNX VS VOX Tonelab??

Hi to all!

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to compare a Digitech GNX3 to a VOX Tonelab LE (Silver edition)??
I am mostly wondering which device is best at amp and cab modelling, and which has the best effects section. I know the GNX has a built in studio and so on, but lets just look at the sound quality of the modelling and effects and the usability towards live using.

The high gain amps are what I care for most(say Rectifier), but the other amps are of some importance to me as well.

Anyone can comment on the amp+cab modelling and effects quality of the GNX3 VS Tonelab LE?

Any comments are much appreciated, thanks in advance for your input!

Go the tone lab, Digitech = Dodgytech. I dont like digitech stuff, too fizzy on the top end. And the 'built in studio' stuff is probably bull****, nothing beats recoding into a computer with good software. The thing I've found with amp modellers is that they give heaps of different guitars the same sound. They're not transparent and dont let the tone of your guitar come thru. I have an amp modeller that makes my Duncan Loaded schecter sound like my Stock Fender Jazzmaster.

Anywho, if amp modelling is the way you wanna go, I'd say go with the tonelab, I did like their Valvetronix amps.

Btw, Recto amp sims are nothing like real recto IMO. They just scooped highgain, but nothing like a recto.

Re: Digitech GNX VS VOX Tonelab??

I have the GNX 2 and briefly considered buying the GNX 3 when it came out. It just isn't enough of a leap ahead. The valvetronix is superior to it anyway. The GNX is fizzy by comparison and the models aren't that great. I'd buy the vox every time when comparing it to the Digitech stuff. Best product Digitech makes is the Bad Monkey followed closely by the Whammy pedal. I'm not a fan of anything else they make.

Any reason you're limiting it to GNX vs Tonelab?

The GT8 and XT Live tend to get higher marks on high gain stuff, particularly the XT Live, and the GT8 wins on effects.

Wel I got the GNX3 at the moment and might switch to a Tonelab LE if it comes out to be better (I will test it before buying off course).
I am not too fond of the Line 6 to be honest, and have tried the GT8 as well.
Modelling and effects need to be combined in what I am after and both sections need to be qualitive.

I've got GNX too. When you got GNX you'll want to get Vox cause digitech's got unnatural sound. I'm thinking going for Vox next time.

Re: Digitech GNX VS VOX Tonelab??

I haven't tried the ToneLab LE, but I have the tabletop ToneLab, and I've tried out a bunch of other modelers and multi-effect processors. For sound quality, I prefer Boss, DigiTech GNX (not RP), and Vox. For features, the Boss GT-8, GT-Pro, and DigiTech GNX4 and 3000 are tops. I chose the ToneLab in this case by comparing tone and price. I have never been a fan of Line 6 products, but people who use them love them. I think it would be worth testing out each company's respective flagship model as a start point.
