Digitech GNX3000 or Digitech GNX3?

Re: Digitech GNX3000 or Digitech GNX3?

Ahhh Digitech. The other guitarist in my band had one. (GNX3) I never did like the sound and he was never satisfied with it either. I owned a Rp2000 which was and earlier model along the same lines. It was OK for open mic nights when I wanted to have something for electric player to use and still allow me to travel light. They always sound shrill to me. And I've used PRS, Ibanez, Strats and various Gibsons.

But I own three pieces of Digitech gear and none of them function correctly at the moment. I don't abuse gear and expect things to work for a decade. I won't ever buy another Digitech product because I don't think they hold up.

Your mileage may vary...just my story here.

I owned a GNX2 and upgraded to a GNX3. While I do enjoy using it for bedroom practicing dumping it into my computer soundcard as well as a multi-effects processor (turning off the amp and cabinet modeling). However, I've never had any luck running it into a PA system in a live situation for the reason I quoted....there's always a shrillness that I can't dial out. I've attempted every configuration I could conceive as well as using Digitech's help via customer support.

I have an RP100. Piece o crap. Most of the knobs stopped working and one of the footswitches works...if you stomp on it. I take very good care of my gear, this thing was just a POS and it sounded horrible. I was looking at the GNX3 but after this experience I am thinking twice. I like the PODs alot better I think.

If you're looking for more variety from your gear, buy some good pedals or use the cash you would spend on the Digitech stuff on upgrading gear. I own a GNX-2 and it's OK for practice etc, but not all that great for other purposes. For what it is, it's neat technology and it even sounds a little "warm" on some settings. That being said, analog is where it's at. As others said, there's a shrillness to the pedal that you can't quite dial out. The GNX-3 is a breathed on GNX-2 pretty much. Recording functions built in aren't worth much because the media is very limited in size. Tones aren't very accurate for the models it supposedly emulates (the boogie doesn't sound like a boogie and the Marshall doesn't sound like a marshall. They all sound like amps, but not like you would want them to.

Well, I'm not so much concerned about the quality of the amp models seeing as I'd only be using the unit for its effects. I'd turn off all the amp and pre-amp models. I expressed a similar question in my GT-6/8 thread but was just wondering what Multi-FX products other than Boss were like in comparison.

I own individual pedals and I like them, but I'd also like to invest in a good multi-fx unit. My only concern about the GT-6 or 8 is that I use the Whammy quite a lot and need a fairly accurate representation of it, which I've been told both Boss units do pitch shifting ala the Whammy but as the to the quality (or lack thereof, as the Whammy is always sort of "off") I'm not too sure. So, with this in mind, I figured digitech would be the way to go. Maybe I was wrong?
