DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

Does anybody have experience with this unit? I can get it fairly cheap with foot controller in good shape. I am wondering what drives it has, is the overdriven sound real as it can be and how it compares to for ex BOSS GT-8 in terms of overdrive/distortion sounds as that is most important thing to me, other effects will be usable for my application for sure on either of them. I like sound for ex like Maiden Sabbath Van Halen Malmsteen Whitesnake Rainbow Saxon etc. hard rock heavy metal 70's 80's. So what is your verdict? :)

Re: DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

I don't think there is any comparison. The GSP21 is early 90s digital technology...it doesn't model amps, at least in the way we think about it these days...these days they do the modeling thing much much better. The Boss would be the one to get.

Re: DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

So, my best bet would be to grab GT-8. Thing is that I should play live and here are small clubs so definitly no need for some great tube heads and 4x12 cabs. Also its pain to carry them and 4x12 cannot fit in a car so some van must be there and that is expensive etc. so I am looking for compromise to have as good tone as I can and still be easy to use in any situation and portable

Re: DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

You know, I was crafting some really nice tones on my old plastic BOSS ME-6 (That's right, SIX!)

I think you'll be able to create some sporty tones on the GSP 21. Modeling technology, IMO, is really just very specific stompbox technology. Meaning all a model is, is a stompbox of a specific amp. Whoop dee doo. Every multi-fx requires time to futz with the parameters, eq, etc...so plan on doing that.

Get get the 21 and work on creating the sounds you need. I cannot imagine that it can't do what you need - 70's/80's rock from digitechs flagship? Come on...

Just remember - all presets are probably overdone.

All that said, I agree get a GT-8!

Re: DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

Aceman, do you know some good solid state power amp that I can get that is not very expensive and that will work good with GSP 21 or BOSS GT-8? Also do I need it at all or I can just plug it in some 2x12 cabinet (i will buy one of those) etc.?

Re: DigiTech GSP 21 Legend

while I have never done this, try a Crate Powerblock.

21 is a preamp

Preamp > Power > Cab

A tech 21 powerengine (60 watts) would work. It's cab + Power. Also something by Atomic? I think.

I've really been thinking about going GT-8 into the Tech 21 Powerengine

TNX!

I am thinking should I get some combo solid state 2x12 combo or 1x12 combo and pair it with GSP21 or GT-8 or should take Crate Powerblock and use separate cab? Thing is that its very possible that I can get combo far cheaper then Crate Powerblock and cabinet... Don't really know what to do :(
