Digitech??

Re: Digitech??

Digitech = Hissy tech
DOD = Donny Osmond Distortion

Actually, it may not be a bad unit, but I'm done with Digitech. All their stuff is noisy, has no headroom, and holds zero resale value.

Go for a Vox Floorboard, L6, or a Boss or Korg. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Digitech??

I've got the Digitech GNX3. I like it for the purposes I use it for....the bulk of which is playing thru my computer sound card at home and recording to Cakewalk. I'll use it for a pinch at rehearsal for chorus, flange, etc....and while it's a solid jack of all trades, it certainly isn't the master of anyone. But...there's a butt load of effects to choose from that are certainly passable.

The weakest link with the Digitech is using it solo as an amp modeler thru a PA system. Keep in mind this is what I originally bought it for. At that point I figured all I needed was my Schecter C1 Plus and the Digitech and I'd be good to go. Oops. Anyways, it may be possible to get a better sound out of thur a PA than I was able to get....but I tried everything that the manual AND Digitech Customer Service told me to try.

Re: Digitech??

I've had a couple Digitech processors. I had a Line 6 Pod 2.0. If I was in the market for a processor/modeler, I'd go for Line6 again in a second. I've had trouble hearing the difference between some Digitech models at times. The Line 6 products I've messed with are more user-friendly, as well.

BTW, does anybody else think that every processor Digitech has made since they got into amp modeling (RP100/200/300, GNX series) looks super cheesy & like a toy?

All coments about digitech in this thread are mt exact thoughts on Digitech!! Everyone beat me to it!!!

How about like +6!!!!

Re: Digitech??

I wish I could A/B the Vox and L6 floorboards and have a definitive answer about which one sounds better, plugged into a house PA system. I don't have a use for one right now, but I'd definitely buy either, if I didn't have my Valvetronix AD60 head as my home practice amp.

Re: Digitech??

hahahaha it's so funny 'cuz I have an uncle who worked for DOD/Digitech (one bought the other eventually...) and he was always saying things like, "So if you want some bad-sounding equipment for your guitar, I can probably get something from the warehouse for free."

So my first distortion pedal was a DOD grunge, which I think my little sister is still using to boost her 15-watt Fender :D

err but yeah, if their employees aren't even speaking highly of 'em...

Re: Digitech??

Digitech strikes me as operating on a rule of sacrificing tone for capability and extra doodads. Every Digitech multi unit I've tried has sounded very lackluster.

BOSS units I like a little better but their preset patches need a lot of editing to sound good. I own a GT5 strictly as an effects engine and it works fine for me. I have the preamps, speaker and mic sims, and the OD/DS turned off and it's a good effects engine.

Line 6 tends to be pretty good although their POD XT stuff needed a lot of tweakage to sound good to me. The XT live looks interesting... i will have to try it out.

Re: Digitech??

Unless someone gives me more info, I think I might give the ole' Vox a try, but we'll see. Thanks guys. :)

Re: Digitech??

My Boss GT6 has treated me pretty well thus far (had it almost a year), but I would also like to hear the Vox unit sometime.

Re: Digitech??

I've always thought that the best option is to buy the head version of any of the best modelers, like the Vox AD60, Vetta I or II, or Flextone II XL HD. That way, they can be used like a POD, a practice amp w/cab, or run straight to a PA system.
If you have a loud tube halfstack at home that's too loud for late night practicing, throw the modeling head on it instead, running at 6 watts. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Re: Digitech??

I like Digitech equipment. I own several pieces, although admittedly, they're rather archaic. I have 2 GSP-5's (you still can't beat their original distortion and echo), a DSP-128 for the main system, an RP-1 (it's cute, but I don't use it a lot), quite a few DOD stompboxes and a Digitech Vocalist Performer (great bang for the buck). Some of it is a bit noisy, but compared to when I used to run an entire bank of pedals, not so bad.

Re: Digitech??

I tried the Vox and I felt it was somewhat lacking in gain and drive... like it needed more tonal strength/integrity.

Re: Digitech??

Well, I've narrowed it down to either the Tonelab SE or Pod xt live. Which of these is better at distortions.......GOOD distortions mind you. :) Obviously, they both offer superb effects and clean sounds, but I need to be able to get heavy with it as well.
