How can you really compare though unless you had the same setup??

You might not like the sound and it could have nothing to do with teh pickup....same thing goes if you liked the sound.

On the other hand, I do like to hear clips....they're fun to listen to.

Ranali 's right.

Dimarzio descriptions are right on anyway!

Your Edwards LP looks amazing....I've been eyeing those for a while now...the LP Custom model in particular......

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

Damn, the secrets out, I was hoping to be able to store a couple of these sets for cheap. :D

Everything mentioned here about the Virtual PAFs is true. They are some fine pickups and I like them a lot more than most pickups. They have more clarity than most humbuckers and they have an interesting airy, almost 3-D quality to them. I had them in my Dean Chafin Del Sol (that I sold to Youngpup a while ago). They kicked in my Epiphone Les Paul and I should have kept them there, because I'm not fully satisfied with the pickups in it now :smack:

Ya i forget the model but it is their more strat shape guitar.... not the Axis.... I was told that teh Humbucker is a Dimarzio Virtual PAF and the the single coils are Dimarzio Virtuals of some sort.....

You are thinking of the Silhouette Special.
The pickups in it are made by dimarzio, but they are not any of their actual stock pickups. I heard that the singles are supposed to be closest to blue velvets, and the humbucker to PAF Classics, but who knows?

no man that axe has a custom wound dimarzio in the bridge spot
it is closer to a tone zone than a V paf

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

I'd like to put the Virtual Hot PAF in my EBMM.

Still no clips from anyone? High-gain, low-gain, otherwise?

BUMP

Just installed one in my Schecter C-1 Elite, replacing a JB. I'm finding it too piercing, so I'm going to try a 300k volume pot and report back. I really really really like what I'm hearing, besides the peircing high end, so I think the 300k pot might work some magic.

I'll post clips of the same riff, recorded with the same gear, before and after.

That's strange.....from the looks of the tone chart I wouldn't think it would be piercing...certainly not as much as a Duncan anyway....the treble looks pulled back a little actually.

I'll have to try one of these myself....my curiosity has near peaked.

I know, I know... it seems strange. I might be totally crazy - but the sharp high end is there, Scout's Honor. Once I try the 300k, if i'm still not happy then we'll all know that I'm out to lunch.

Cheers

how close is the pup to the strings?

It's 4/32" on the low E, and 5/32" on the high E, measured from the polepieces. I'm next going to try evening the pup height at 3/32 or 4/32, and then just adjust polepieces before gutting the electronics. Any suggestions are welcome!

Anyone know where to find/buy/order a 300k pot with audio taper? I'm only finding Gibson's 300k linear, which is fine, but I'd prefer audio taper.

Cheers
