Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

Great, wildstar!

SD Jazz doesn't seem to like an overdrived sound too much....
What did you switch at the end of the track?

Air Zone sounds better to me than Air Norton in the bridge! Cool...

I'll try to ask you again to do some clean recordings in bypass mode... that will make more sence for comparison!

Thanx dude!

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

You guys think Neil Zaza tried the VHOT? I know he probably a ton of Duncans and Dimarzios before settling on the CC.

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

the way neil talked about the paf 59 "sounds a little thin" led me to firmly believe he was a happier man with whatever dimarzios he used before.
cort guitars suck for tunning.his maybe better.i dont think he was given to much of a choice as to witch pickup choices.
but i do think his custom custom was all that forum members tell me about.
realy fat with enough bass, and sweet high end.
the other live videos sound like a paf 59 neck position IHMO really thin in that basswood bodied guitar,BUT nothing short of wonderfull for the cleaner parts.
tried it in a epi LP and the thinness was all gone.

that is all my subjective opinion. :beerchug:

I bet the CC would be great with an Alnico II humbucker in the neck.

I still think some of the fattest humbuckers I have ever heard are the Rio Grande BBQ/Texas set.

Lot of it comes does to the guitar. A C-5/59 for examples sounds fat in a Les Paul.

I dunno... The V Hot PAF came out sometime in 2005, right? When did he do all his testing of pups for his guitar?

funny you say that because im in between the rio grande BBQ/texas and the
seymour cc/dimarzio virtual paf for my les paul sx.

any ideias?
do ya think the rio ´s would be worth it in another guitar if the LP sounds too muddy with em?

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

Guys, where can I listen to clean samples of Rio Grande BBQ/Texas?
Why no one posts any clean samples??? :gurmpy:

I have to say from experience the Rio BBQ/Texas have great clean from what i heard in my LP Standard. Those pickups sound sooooo different depending on the guitar. I had them in four different guitars and ALL sounded way different. The BBq had good cut and definition in my LP and solos were so fat....kind of like a CC crossed with a C-5 if that makes sense........not that I have experience with the CC other than my tech's guitar.

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

didnit you find the texas neck to be kinda dirty,or distorted in the clean channel?some say its too bassy in that position for a LP

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

So, obvious question: How would you compare Rio Grande BBQ/Texas with Duncans & DiMarzios? What about splitted, series/parallel tones?

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

listenend again to virtual paf neck and they seem sometimes almost single coil in attack caracter.
dont want that in my LP.i would go with the jazz if it had a little more midrange sounds like a alnico 2 pro to me.

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

I just wanted to thank Wildstar for posting the clips. I've been doing some searching for the perfect pickups for my Hamer Archtop and I think I've found them now. I've wanted something low in output and complex. Not too bright and not too bassy. Something that sounds like a cross between a single coil and a humbucker at the same time. This thread has opened my eyes to some great pickups and now I've placed my order for the VV Hot PAF bridge and the VV PAF neck. I've not purchased a Dim pup for various reasons (mainly because I didn't think their products were versatile enough and I hate the double creme patent). I've held off long enough though.

Cool! You're very welcome. I'm glad it has been useful for others. I have clips of my latest combo (Custom b / 59 n) coming soon. Then I'm installing a CC in the bridge, and have a V PAF Bridge on the way to try in the neck, which is probably the last combo before I decide what to stick with. The end of the road is in sight!

I thought the V PAF neck was a bit too chimey for my tastes, and the Air Norton too warm and fat, so the V PAF Bridge might fit perfectly between the other two pups in the neck.

Hmmm....I think this is good news for me. I always find most neck humbuckers too dark....not chimey enough. So if someone else thinks it's too chimey.....well it's probably right on for me :)

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

Oh boy... I thought I was off the hook. I guess this monster thread is still clinging to life...

I've got clips of the Custom, Custom Custom, and VPAF Bridge clips for the bridge position, and 59n and VPAF Bridge for the neck position. Am installing the C5 tomorrow, and will post all clips then. I LOVE the CC, it's my favorite. I think I like A2 magnets... I guess that means I have to order some APH's. Anyone got any they want to sell me? The madness never ends...

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

guys i dont want to be biased but i defintiely understand why neil zaza went to duncans from dimarzio
the duncan stuff is overall more organic and toney
i want to pit a Virtual hot paf up against a PGb
i got rid of my hot paf(traded roadstar II for his air zone) and may buy a PGb trembucker to hear finally
I am willing to bet the ranch the PG wins!:beerchug:
the dimarzio stuff i have heard so far(air zone, virtual hot paf,paf pro, tone zone, breed, and a few others) all have this quality about em that just does not sound real???
always sounds like there is some processing going on in them??? which is why the air zone is now for sale over at the trading post:gurmpy:

I don't want to make any general negative comments about Dimarzio - they have been so cool on the phone, and making exchanges couldn't be easier. And the Air and VV pups I've tried have some amazing, outstanding qualities to them, qualities that I wish I could mix with the Duncan pups.

But I think you nailed it, Lester: Duncans have an organic gooeyness that is just wicked cool. I don't know how to describe it...

MadGuitar: I think you'll love the Custom. It ROCKS.
