Re: DiMarzio Air Zone vs. Breed

Can someone help to explain the main differences in everything about these two pickups? Maybe preference?
I'd also like to know if the Breed has a nice vocal quality to it when you really dig into notes.
Thank you.
Both of those pickups are really great pickups. The Breed is a touch more middy, and stronger. But the Air Zone has some of the lower-mid compression of the Tone-Zone. Both these pickups would be great in lighter guitars you want to darken a bit without that loss of articulation that comes in pickups that have compression or pickups that are just too powerful.
No preference here, I have heard a few Air Zone's and they are fantastic pickups, and work great with amps that have gobs of gain.
A Breed, which is hotter, will get a bit muddy in an extremely high-gain situation. A Breed is just a smidge cooler than a Tone Zone, and has more of the characteristics of a bassy PAF(No compression like the TZ). Sometimes it reminds me of an Invader, albeit a bit weaker, and smoother, with the Dimarzio sound.
The Air Zone isn't a weak pickup at all, it is as strong or stronger than 70% of the pickups out there.
You really cannot go wrong with either. I have the Breed in a Jackson and it is a fantastic pickup.
