Dimarzio and Bill Lawrence (Wilde) choices

So just picked up a near new beater guitar, an ash-bodied Ibanez RG421 and as most of my guitars have SD's, I thought I'd dip my toe in the Dimarzio world for once. I'd like to have an axe specifically for instrumental and progressive rock, and also some 90's Extreme riffage. I also thought it would be a good opportunity to upskill and learn how to actually install pickups! I have a few humbuckers lying around (57 Classics and Burstbuckers, which are two conducter and I know can be split...but might take more skill than I have ATM) and also a Wilde L500XL. The RG has a 5 blade which splits the hummys in different ways.

So I think I'll go with the Wilde in the bridge (anyone ever split it?) and maybe a Liquifire in the neck (heard some very good things about it) but also considering an AT-1 (love Andy's tone) though not sure it can cut it when doing Nuno-type riffage.

Any thoughts appreciated?

I'd go with a Liquifire/Crunch Lab combo. It worked for Petrucci.

Of course, it's hard to go wrong with a Lawrence in any position.

There is not a single Dimarzio ever wound that is even in the same ballpark as the L500XL.

Boy that's a Bold statement when Amps nowdays are at Least or more important than Pickups used ( but hey , that comes from only Using +/or Installing them for 45 years of about every variety/combination possible ~ including a Super D that was longer than 39 years ago )

I don't know where he is now, but I remember meeting him at the Schecter Guitar Research booth back in the late 70's....

That's cause we're both old Fockers : ) a close associate/ partner of His taught me how to properly unfinish/Re-finish guitar necks in mid 80's ( So-Cal ) for Speed ~ i.e. lemon oil and so forth + I still do it almost exactly to this day . Grateful to Tom and Him

That's a good guitar for the super3/2 combo. Go with the evo neck for for more typical neck output.

I have had several Dimarzios and several Wildes. The L500XL is a fine pickup but it is not THE pickup. Different guitars, different fingers, different amps, and different ears need different things.
Not slagging them in the least, just suggesting it is perhaps foolish to insist they are better than anything Dimarzio sells, let alone several ballparks better. Bible quotes notwithstanding.
