Dimarzio Drop Sonic anyone?

Has anyone had this pup in any of there guiatrs. Im ot buying one to play "nu metal" as it was designed for, but have heard good reviews about this pup being very verstile. And its sposed to give some good split tones as well.
Its only around 12.k output so wonder how aggressive it can get, giving my current guitars have SH6's in them.

Any info, Thanx!

Hey,
I think your talking about the D sonic.I just put a Dimarzio Super Distortion in my strat . Its one of the highest output pickups there is. The split coil tones are quite strat-y in my opinion so there is a good chance the D sonic will work for that too. As for aggresiveness -- be prepared to back off your gain a couple of notches.

I'm also interested in this pickup, and would appreciate hearing about other folks experience with it.

Re: Dimarzio Drop Sonic anyone?

I've used this pickup and it's pretty damn good sounding.....it's extremely unique. It's a darker pickup....lots of low mids unlike most other pickups which are mostly upper mids or mid-mids or bass, treble, etc.

But even though it's dark and chunky...it's TIGHT. Tight like an Evolution. It's kind of like if you took an Evolution and reversed the EQ completely but kept the tightness.

It's unique because most dark sounding pickups such as an Invader or Super Distortion can get flubby in the bottom end because of the extra bass associated with them.....this guy is equally as dark but like I said tight. Perfect for downtuning I would imagine however I only used it in standard tuning when I had it. Never tried it split either.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear, thanks ranalli. I've tried quite a few pickups in my baritone guitar, and it's tough to find something that captures the fullness and richness of a bari or detuned guitar without totally mushing out. And I'm not even using high gain...

In the Duncan lineup, the Custom 5 works great, BTW, Justice4All. It's not advertised as agressive, modern-type pup, but it can kick serious a** if you want it to. Its tone complements bari's pretty well, don't know about downtuned regular guitars.

I used the dropsonic for drop C tuning, and it was absolute ****. Muddy, flubby, wayy too dark and not nearly tight enough. Didn't seem very agressive when I had it in my schecter either, just all mud and no balls.

Tone is in the ear of the beholder...but i HATED that pickup.
